    My thoughts on Long-range shooting/hunting

I have not. We used to have a world champion shotgunner close by, but not sure what happened there, maybe divorce, and I don't know if he shot rifle or not, but they do have 1000 yards on their rifle range. Lots of components downrange is our history. I like the idea of focusing the scope at...

    My thoughts on Long-range shooting/hunting

When you have accurate equipment, and as the man said, the best glass one can afford, 5-600 yards is so doable. Wind is an entirely different matter, but decent conditions and you do your job it's not that hard if one has invested the time to be proficient. 1000 yards is doable as well, but it...

    My thoughts on Long-range shooting/hunting

Where I elk hunt short shots are just not practical. Thick scrub oak only allows much vision looking cross canyon at an elevating terrain, and even then I have watched herds in excess of one hundred animals simply disappear into it. When my cousin told me about the place I thought he was full of...

    Rem 700 bolt problems

My guess is the base screws, I did the same thing with a Savage 12, put a shorter screw in, problem solved. Hope it's that simple

    Reloader 26/Short Barrels

I really try to shoot full cases in about everything, as it has proven to be some of my most effective loads over a variety of powders in so many different cartridges. The one exception I have is in a Remington 700 with a heavy 26" barrel chambered in .243 Win and 38 grains of IMR 4064 behind 85...

I Know This Is LRH... But What Is The Shortest Distance You Have Taken A Live Target?

I was ml hunting with my Savage 10ml shooting smokeless powder, and had practiced out past 300 yards, and was confident to that distance. I was much younger and endured the countless shots and punishing recoil pushing those 300 grain XTP's at a fairly good clip back in those days. It was opening...

    Hog Stimulus

There were a couple of guys that worked turnarounds a few years ago that came to Barnsdall, OK, and neither had married, they bought a ranch in Texas together and put a vehicle together to kill hogs. This thing turned night to light, and they had guns mounted on turrets that they manned while on...

    Leupold Scope Warranty Service

I've said it here before that the most expensive thing I ever did was look through my cousin's NF scope. I still own several Leupold's, they're on most of my rimfires, and I have a Mark IV on my 22-250 that has served me well for quite a while, but both of my hunting rifles have NF on them. I...

    Seating Depth Increments?

I use .010, and have found my rifles generally like them about .020 off the lands, so when I do get a new rifle I want to shoot Bergers out of I generally start there. I'm fairly certain every rifle I've owned but one that I shot Bergers out of liked it right there. Had one 6.5-284 Norma that...

    Leupold Scope Warranty Service

Haven't had to send one of their scopes in for years, but every time I did, they fixed it and did it in a very timely manner. Still own several, and shoot several of them fairly regularly. The Mark IV on my 22-250 is kinda old, but it's been a dandy since I bought it new.

Meanwhile on RS they're killin bear, deer, elk , and moose with .223 and 77gr TMK.

My first rule in hunting is do not hunt critters that can eat me; to each his own, I have no opinion of anyone else hunting whatever they want, but ten-foot bears, African Lions, even Cape Buffalo. Moose is dangerous enough and I have never had the opportunity to hunt them, but I would. I've...

How far out will you kill an elk by yourself?

Yes, it is terrible. A man can carry a deer by himself easier than this, at least that was my experience, but my deer carrying days are over. I drive my front-end loader to them now.
