    243 Bullet for Fur..?..

I have used the 85gr Sierra BTHP Gameking and they did anything BUT blow up inside. One dog I shot at about 250yds, I shot high, nicked the spine. The dog flopped on the ground and when he stopped moving enough for a follow up shot it anchored him. That shot entered the left front paw, the...

Success! Non-typical Mulie taken by my wife

Nice buck. I assume some sort of 30 cal, since you used a 165gr bullet?

    243 for long range

OK thanks, that is good to know. unfortunately, i just passed up a deal on just such a barrel, looking for an 8 twist. The 8 will give me more bullet options I think, based on the factories recommendations. I imagine I could expect about 100fps below that in my sporter 22".

    243 long range questions

Is the 8 twist sufficient for all the 105's? David Tubb has won some big matches with his bullet. I read he uses a 1-7.5 twist most of the time. Do you think that might explain why their accuracy isn't up to par?

Beating the dead " i dont understand MILS" horse!!!

Well I gotta say I knew nothing about Mils before reading this thread, but I have learned 2 things from this post. 1. I see no reason to leave the MOA system 2. Somehow, it does not surprise me that the USMC and US Army cannot even agree on what a mil is. Unbelievable! You'd think that...

Will this scope work on my .338 Lapua

Well I will wade in the water on this one. One thing's for sure with Lupy's warranty you're covered if it doesn't. Personally I would bet it would have mo problems. The Savage has a brake on it right? I was just looking at a friends 338 L the other day and his did. With that brake it...

What's the twist rate of that barrel?

    243 long range questions

My next build will be a long range 243. I plan on an 8 twist barrel, but am wondering about COAL. I want to keep the rifle as a repeater, so that will determine a lot of what else I can do with it. Thus I want to draw on the experience of this forum. I figure bullets in the 105-107 weight...

    243 for long range

Yea I was aware of that, I just hate to be on the minimum of twist, I think it might keep the bullet from being stable when the yardages get long. I think!

    243 for long range

Ha, you are right for the 95gr classic Hunter, but I was looking at the VLD. It says 9 or better.

    243 for long range

In an effort to explore all options, in the beginning, I have a Savage 243, with factory 22" tube, with 1-9.25 (I think that's Savage factory twist) and am wondering if anyone has used this with a Berger Hunting 95gr VLD. Midway's write up says 1-9 twist. Will the .25 make a difference? I...

    243 for long range

I doubt I will hunt with it, but would like to shoot long range with a 243. I have a Savage 12, that is currently a 223, but i will swap that out to a 243. I am thinking a 1-8 twist bull barrel in the 26" length, and would like to use bullets in the 105 to 115gr range. I read on Midway's...

    Lighter recoil

I would add another + for the 243 over the 260. Not because it's superior, it really isn't but for waht you describe I don't think the 260 is the answer. The 243 with the 80-85gr Barnes loads has WAY less recoil than the 308, I know I own and shoot both. Before you change your barrel for...
