Both of the sights are used by the US military. However, Aimpoint just secured a contract for the Comp M4s model for the official sight of the US military. I believe they ordered over half a million sights. The Aimpoints are very rugged, almost impossible to knock off of zero, very water...

Great custom stock maker in Texas?

You very well may have found your stock by now but I know of one. Check out Mike Lau at Texas Brigade Armory. He seems to be able to do quite a lot. I know he custom makes the stocks for the M70's he builds including the checkering and bedding.

First time Florida Hog hunter with questions on rifle caliber choice

I agree completely with Dave here. It's all about shot placement. I dropped a 220 pound boar from a distance of 50 yards with a AR-15 in 5.56 firing a 62 grain FMJ. I shot it just under the left eye and it dropped DRT. I didn't get a chance to disect the head to see where the bullet went but...

    HOG hunting

That would be a good question to ask the local fish and game warden. If there are any, I'm sure he'll be quick to tell you where they are. Check out their website. Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife

Go with either an Aimpoint or Eotech. I've had both and each are great for close in work. Let me know if you need to know what the differences are, I've got a ton of info and not sure if you want to hear it.

I need some ideas. Strange groups

I know this is a little bit on the too little, too late side but your intial problem could have been caused from paralax. I used to shoot a HK91 that had a claw mounted scope on it, which was WAY too high. If I didn't have my head exactly in the same postion every time I shot my groups would...

    Sightmark 4-16X44 30 mm

I have used the 3-9X42. I think they make a cheaper version of the 3-9X40 but it doesn't have the illuminated reticle. Both are pretty solid units for the price. I've got one on my 17HMR and I love it. The reticle is thin so I can see the smaller targets and the glass is very clear. Plus...

    Sightmark 4-16X44 30 mm

I've used them before and I'm quite impressed. They have great glass and are worth more than you pay for them. My only gripe is that the MilDot reticle isn't accurate. I spoke with Sightmark and they said that they are working to get that to the correct measurments.

tips on new long range rifles

I have the Savage 17hmr you like and I wouldn't trade mine for the world. I use it for culling the local turtle population in several stock tanks. It's definately a point and click rifle up to 150 yards. The ranges I engage the turtles is about 50-75 yards on a target that is no more than...
