Remington M700 Long Range 7mm Rem Mag? Need a 400-yard deer rifle... Help me!

I do still have the Remington 700 LRH in 7mm RemMag on back order with my FFL dealer, and this is the time of year where I make most of my money, and I would love to have both, and I think I may have that virus you mentioned. I seem to be babbling like a man about to buy both rifles.

Remington M700 Long Range 7mm Rem Mag? Need a 400-yard deer rifle... Help me!

The 257 WbyMag is sounding better all the time. I reload, so I plan to buy the cheapest ammo for breaking in the barrel and getting the scope dialed in close. Then work up some Barnes TTSX 100 gr. bullets to see what they can do. If they don't work out, maybe some Accubonds or Partitions.

Remington M700 Long Range 7mm Rem Mag? Need a 400-yard deer rifle... Help me!

Took a look at the Weatherby Vanguard in .257 Weatherby Magnum. I searched the web trying to find anything negative to change my mind about considering it as my 400-yard deer rifle. I thought the 24" barrel would shave off too much velocity to make it much better than a 25-06, but I found an...

Long Range Hunting Rifle on a Budget...What About This Setup

I will look into the Bushnell. I have one on a model 70 30-06 that has been there for 32 years without a problem. I have also heard great things about Vortex. The rifle is only offered in .308 or 22-250.

Long Range Hunting Rifle on a Budget...What About This Setup

I have not researched the Legend Ultra scopes, but I do like the mildot and magnification. The rate of twist is just right for what I plan to use the rifle for. It will be a deer hunting rifle shooting 150-165 gr. bullets at around 2900 fps.

Remington M700 Long Range 7mm Rem Mag? Need a 400-yard deer rifle... Help me!

I actually started out thinking about a 25-06. Then, the more I thought about it, the more I thought about a heavy barreled beast that could smack down a buck in the back of my neighbor's field if I wanted to. He doesn't hunt and is always telling me to shoot some of the deer eating his crops...

Long Range Hunting Rifle on a Budget...What About This Setup

I need a low-recoil hunting rifle that will drop a whitetail out to 400 yards on a tight budget, so I started looking around and this is what I've come up with: Marlin X7VH in .308; some features include: 2.5 lb. adjustable trigger 26" heavy barrel Pillar bedding 7.75 lbs...

Remington M700 Long Range 7mm Rem Mag? Need a 400-yard deer rifle... Help me!

I was leaning toward the 50 for its light gathering qualities. I have had to let a lot of deer walk with my 32 because I couldn't tell what kind of rack it had.

Remington M700 Long Range 7mm Rem Mag? Need a 400-yard deer rifle... Help me!

I had not seen this thread. I thought the trigger deal alone could be a deal breaker. On the Savage, the Accutrigger seems like the better deal, and it has a muzzle break. If the 700 needs a new trigger and a muzzle break, it no longer seems like such a good deal. I have never owned a Remington...

Remington M700 Long Range 7mm Rem Mag? Need a 400-yard deer rifle... Help me!

I like the idea of high magnification, but you are probably right. I don't have any experience with a quality scope beyond 9X, (my cousin had a Tasco or something that was like 12X and I could see the bullet holes in a target with my old 3-9X32 Bushnell better with it than his) and was thinking...

Remington M700 Long Range 7mm Rem Mag? Need a 400-yard deer rifle... Help me!

Unless someone changes my mind, I'm going with the Remington Long Range in 7mm Rem Mag. I am changing my mind from my original post though and instead of the 3.5-10X50 Vortex Viper, I'm going with the 6.5-20X50 (MilDot). The only problem I'm having with the rifle though is availability. My...

Remington M700 Long Range 7mm Rem Mag? Need a 400-yard deer rifle... Help me!

That makes sense. Do the basic (inexpensive) accuracy improvements beforehand. I don't plan to have the rifle before this deer season is over. (This season may end for me today if that big boy on the trail camera shows up.) Then I will have until next October to get things ready.

The more research I do and the more I learn, the more I tend to understand/agree with your advice.

Problem! I thought I had settled on the Remington, but as I was browsing Cabelas, I ran across a Savage Long Range Hunter in 6.5 X 284 Norma which looks like it would be an excellent 400-yard deer cartridge (same price as the Remington). Y'all gotta help me decide!

I bet if you did a poll, it would come in 50/50 on love/hate muzzle brakes.
