    How much cool down time?

Lots of good information, I have been ultra conservative on cool down. This will help speed up and get a more consistent temp. Thanks to all, back to work next week (guiding) so playing with loads will slow way down.

    How much cool down time?

Thanks, I have been doing a 10 minute cool down. I will check the 3 shot without cool down once I get a good load. Have my bench in the top of my barn. Always shaded and doors open to help cool. I have a laser thermometer and will play with it on temperature cool down time.

    How much cool down time?

I am working with a 264 win mag testing loads. I know that heat can erode the throat. On a say 70 degree day how much cool down time between shots? For best accuracy on a cold barrel wile hunting how long between shots wile testing a load? If it is 1/4 in with a warm barrel and hits the same...

    Ziess V6/lightweight build

I have the v6 5-30 , only dislike is it doesn't have turret locks like the older ones did. Fell on the ice coyote hunting, hit the scope like a hammer. It was good but I find that the turrets turn easy. Hunt on horses and concerned about in the scabbard.

    6.5 Creedmor- the Holy Grail?

I am working on a 264 win mag now that is to be a long range wolf rifle. I think it is a good size and weight with the 140 gr. for all range on that size predator. Maybe smack a coyote or two also. Could see the CM doing just fine also.

    6.5 Creedmor- the Holy Grail?

I have guided and hunted elk most of my life. I have seen many clean kills at long range with light bullets. I also have seen a lot of wounded elk get away when shot with large bullets at close range. There are always things you can not control. Nothing helps kill elk cleanly more than knowing...

Rebarrel a 338 win mag into long range cartridge

I have Zeiss and Leupold now, and have little problems with them. The Zeiss binoculars do not adjust for shot angles. Also it will not range in rain or snow. I might try the Sig Sauer binoculars and wait on the scope. Wondering if the LED to level the VX6 would be a problem in some states...

Rebarrel a 338 win mag into long range cartridge

Reading about the .33 Nosler makes it look good. I will do some more research on it. What do you think of the Sig Sauer optics? I guide for a living and use ziess rangefinder binoculars. The Sig Sauer with built-in ballistics for the scope sounds good.

Rebarrel a 338 win mag into long range cartridge

Yes I reload for about a dozen different calibers. I am not interested in the big 338 calibers because I already have a 300 wby on a Remington 700 action. It is set up for long range with a 212 ELDX and performs great.

Rebarrel a 338 win mag into long range cartridge

Back out of the woods for a few days. Talked to lots of people on this and now have an idea of what I think I am going to do. Wondering what you think of this. Sending my 338 win mag A-bolt to Douglas Barrels to be fitted with a 26" stainless barrel. 264 win mag, 1:8 twist 4 groves with...

Rebarrel a 338 win mag into long range cartridge

Thanks, that gives me something to work with. I will look at some parts and talk to my gun smith. Going back into the Scapegoat Wilderness for another hunt tomorrow so will have some time out of service.

Rebarrel a 338 win mag into long range cartridge

That was one I thought of but will .28 Nosler fit the bolt? What do you think of Bell & Carlson stocks? Also have a 300 wby built on a 700 Remington action with a removable magazine. I would like to seat the bullet longer but the magazine is too short. Someone told me that longer magazine was...

Rebarrel a 338 win mag into long range cartridge

I already have a 7mm RemMag in a Ruger 77 with a 24" factory barrel. Have not played with it much but doesn't seem to shoot very good groups. Have a McMillan stock on a 300 Wby and like it. Do you think the McMillan would help the 77? Also kicks like a mule compared to the 300 Wby.
