Central PA woodchucks/groundhogs... Is it too late?

I have a farm to hunt in Central Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get out there for woodchuck all summer. I might be able to make it out in the next week or two. Anyone still seeing woodchuck or is it too late in the year? Thanks!

Do you watch outdoor shows live or by recording them?

+1 on J E Custom and Smokepoler. To many commercials breaking up the staged infomercial.

    Thinking about first AR...

I have never owned or even shot an AR. Never had the interest. For some reason I am now thinking about it. My biggest concern is sort of based on an assumption or preconceived notion of mine: "AR doesn't do anything particularly well, but everything pretty good". A jack of all trades, master...

    .308 bullets/loads for coyote...

I know this has been posted before, searched and read. Looking for more. I am getting started coyote hunting. Eastcoast, some large fields, and I am comfortable shooting coyote out to 300 yards, maybe more in right conditions. I can hold a 4" group at 600 yards at the range, but don't see...

    Is a stock Remington 700P .308 a 1000 yard gun?

So, my NF 20MOA rail arrived. Removed the old, low and behold the new fit with no space between the rail and receiver. No more Weaver for me. Now I need a one piece rail for a Savage 99. Anyone interested in a Weaver 0 MOA or 20 MOA rail? "4 sale cheap"!

    Is a stock Remington 700P .308 a 1000 yard gun?

Jim, the problem is finding a quality rifle smith. As is true in most trades, it is hard to find someone who truly cares. So many are hacks. Which is why I do all my own work on firearms or anything. I always say "A jack of all trades with attention to detail is better than a master of one...

    Is a stock Remington 700P .308 a 1000 yard gun?

ME, if there is a gap, that is exactly what I will do. In regard to guy at LGS tling me my 700 wouldn't be adequate as a 1000 yd rifle, I figured I would wait till I shot 1000 yds then let my target speak for me. Much more powerful statement.

    Is a stock Remington 700P .308 a 1000 yard gun?

Knowing my rifle and my ability I never doubted it. Having only shot to 800 yards, I wasn't sure if something magical happened between 800 and 1000 based on what the clown at the LGS stated. If the rail sits flat I won't bed it.

    Is a stock Remington 700P .308 a 1000 yard gun?

I'm not 100% sure it is the receiver. I checked the two Weaver rails I have and both have a gap. The 20 MOA is worse than the 0. Neither rails are particularly good. Based on Michael's statement: I wasn't sure. I like to think it is the rail and not that Remington has .010" tolerances...

    Is a stock Remington 700P .308 a 1000 yard gun?

Thank you, about what I was planning. Of course another question... If my receiver is .010" lower in the rear than the front, I need to verify with whatever rail I use, why wouldn't I just start to snug the front and let the rear float more with the screws installed to take up the gap in...

    Is a stock Remington 700P .308 a 1000 yard gun?

WR, Trying not to mooch here, (I am actually more able to work on my own firearm than the average bear, but also OCD and a bit anal...) how to you keep the threads of your mount screws and the receiver free of bedding material?

So no release agent between the receiver and mount?

    Is a stock Remington 700P .308 a 1000 yard gun?

"If it's shooting that well"... Now I'm thinking, if it ain't broke why fix it? The scope lives on my rifle. Anyone see any opportunity for long term problems with the aluminum Weaver rail and my homemade .010" shim? I used a SS feeler gauge.

    Is a stock Remington 700P .308 a 1000 yard gun?

Bedding instead of shimming? Bedding seems more accurate (conforming exactly), shimming more durable and stable. Not nearly as messy either. Is JB weld really durable enough? I think I just hijacked my own thread!

ME, thanks. I was hoping it was the rail.
