I have been looking into this also. I lived in Oregon for over 30 years and now that I live out of state, there is no way I would apply for a tag there. You have to purchase a non-resident license before you can apply for a tag. None of the costs or fees are refundable and it is very hard to...
Thanks Matt. That has pretty much cleared things up for me. I think I will order the Norma brass with alcohol. It seems that you would have to prime it first to that the alcohol does not run out. I wonder if it will hurt the primers.
Thanks again for the help,
Gil
Hi Roy,
Glad to know about Nosler. They want almost as much for their brass as they do their ammo. When I had my .338 I use to shoot the nickle plated Federal brass. I rarely shot over 200 yds so I need to learn about all of the variables that I never needed to think about.
I don't think...
Hi Chris, I am sure you are correct but what I am trying to understand is what is it about the brass that would make it shoot differently if one case was a few grains heaver than another. Is it that the burn rate of the powder would be different in a case that has a thicker wall even though...
I am just getting into long range shooting but have been reloading for years. I have always purchased the same brand of brass for reloading but have wondered if it actually effects accuracy. I am having a 7mm RSAUM built and have been shopping for brass. I can buy Norma brass or I can pay...
I have a Model 70 in a short action .308 and I want to get into shooting F Class Open. I originally considered converting to a 7 mm 08 but after finding more about the competition I began looking for something else. Someone referred me to a .284 but I think I might do better with a more...
That is a lot of good information and I appreciate it. What got me into wanting to participate in Long Range Shooting is that I was elk hunting in Oregon and I had a bull run out across a mountain meadow about 400 yds, stop and look straight at me. I had a .338 and did not take the shot...
The main reason is because the ballistics are so much better than a .308, the caliber the rifle is now. I felt it would be a good deer rifle and would work for an occasional elk hunt. I have decided to take a look at the 6.5 and see what the ballistics are on it but have not had time yet. It...
Thanks so much for all of the good information. I made the assumption that it would be better to have the barrel maker thread the barrel but it sounds like a smith can do it just as well. I think I will call my smith and see what he thinks. I could wait 6 months for a barrel if needed but I...
I want to order my first custom barrel for a Model 70 7mm 08 and I live in Foley Alabama. I am considering two different mfg's but am open to other suggestions.
One I am considering is Bartlein Barrels in Jackson, WI. The positive with this company that some customers have set several world...
Thanks again for your help. I looked over the web site and it looks like a good one. I could not find the list of ranges though. I checked over the 6mmbr and Accurate shooter. Would you mind in telling me exactly where the list is?
The only Noslers I have shot are the partitioned an I am not impressed with them. The theory is that if you lose the front half of the bullet, you will always have the back half that retains it weight. The problem is that I have found that you lose that front half 100% of the time. I have...
