    Thermal scope/scanner

Trapper, I typically use a thermal scanner and weapon mount thermal. Initially I only had the weapon mount thermal. After realizing the issues in person I went back and forth on scanner or NV. I settled on a smaller wide field of view thermal scope. This allows me to hand scan by myself or...

    Thermal scope/scanner

Went through the same questions. Rabbit hole is as bad as reloading. I started with a single setup, halo lr on a 6.8 spc, definitely gets heavy scanning with that setup. I added a bering hogster 35mm. Use a lanyard around my neck. Also added a lighter weight 300 Bo and have an extra setup...

    What cartridge/bullet for hog hunting?

The 25-06 or 6.5 will do the trick. I prefer the 6.8 in an AR with a thermal for working sounders. 115 bergers, 140 hybrids and 115 fusions have all worked well for me. Bigger pigs don’t seem to know their dead unless you hit the CNS, ideally between shoulder and head. Good luck and have fun!

Making custom brass 25x284 from 6.5x284

Thanks for sharing merbeau. Cases look good from my lower level of experience. I would check neck runout and general dimensions on a spot check basis in the batch, but sounds like you have the rhythm down. Like new mex kid we just use the FL Redding type d, trim if needed, then use a bushing...

Do larger calibers really compensate for bad shots?

Bad shot is bad shot. Rather make it with a .30+ than smaller if it happens, generally speaking just more energy. As far as the bullet type I have no qualms making those quartering shots with bergers. Pics of 225+ lb whitetail, 30-06, 168 gr vldh @2700 mv, 110 yds. Clipped last rib on my...

    Leica hd-b 2200 or sig 2400abs

I had the sig 2000 for a few years and bought the hdb’s for the same sale last October. Great piece of gear, easy setting up the ballistic card with rifle dope. Worked great on a white tail and cow elk hunt last season. Not sure exactly what your looking to do but works great simplifying gear...

    Best rangefinder for elr

I have the sig 2000 as well. Started looking last Memorial Day for something else after it would not range coyotes past 500 yards in a no till wheat field. Ended up finding the Leica hdb 2200’s on sale, after loading my custom ballistic curve and taking game from 100-530 this fall/winter very...

Why can't i reload exact cartridges?

Anyway the comparator gauge, looks like aluminum, and force on calipers could cause the difference? Understand bullet lengths vary but force applied to measure could as well.

25-06; bullet weight & load data

No problems with 10 twist to 115 grains here, sea level to 8500’, 90’s to low teens. No less than freezing temps at sea level yet. Bergers have been ticket with whitetail, hogs, mule deer and cow elk to 300 yds, mild load starts at 2975 FPS. Unless it’s real windy can’t separate splash damage...

    Leupold Tracking Question

Just ordered a vx5hd 3-15x44, windplex, to go on top of a 7mm-08 hunting set up for my son. I have a vxii 3-9x50 that is almost 25 years old and no telling how many rock bangs and drops it has had, glass and housing still solid. It will not box test. Called leupold up they said send it in...

    New 110 gr ELD-X in 25-06

Got a couple hundred when they first come out and have started load development in 1:10” Hart. 4831 has been my go to powder in 25-06 for years, not sure it’s gonna work with this bullet. Hornady said to use their 110 gr IB as a go by. Getting a funky left right grouping at 8 different...

    NF ATACR F1 4-16X42

Put mine on a 300 wm in February. Quite a bit of range time. Got a chance to stretch it out in the Texas panhandle, amazed at lining up on coyotes to ~1500 yds. I am sure deer and elk will be no problem this season.

    New member in tx

Howdy, been looking for a while and joined. Hunting FL, GA, TX and most recently NM for whitetail, elk and turkeys mostly. Shoot 25-06 (Rem 700 custom) 30-06 (browning autoloader) and have a 300 wm custom coming in a few months. Work with my dad on reloading. Enough range time to make clean...
