Am thinking about a 6.5 lightweight rifle. Down to 260, 6.5 Creedmore or 6.5-284.
Have heard a bunch about 6.5-284 and 6.5'06 burning out bores, but nothing about the 25'06.
25'06 ought to be the nastiest for being overbore gun. What gives?
Am getting older and desire lighter rifle. 6.5 is caliber, but am open as to chamberings. Want to be able to effectively shoot deer at 500 yards. If conditions perfect might try shot at an Elk that far away. 130 and 140 grain bullets.
Rifle alone prefer 6.5lbs weight; is this possible...
Why is it that I rarely see a post on Sightron scopes?
Am thinking about the 3.5-10x56 with German #4 reticle for Elk at 500-600 yards.
Have been a Leupold man, but have lost faith in the 1" tube scopes and have a hard time justifying their cost for 30mm tubes.
Has anyone had any...
Where can you get you get one for $700? (is it legal???)
The 2.5-10X45 seems to me to be the perfect compromise.
German #4 and parallax set at 300yards is my dream.
My 600 yard Elk rifle is a Model 70 Classic SS BOSS. It's in 30'06 and out of the box at initial factory settings and grabbing my 'usual' handload for 180grners shoots 5/8-3/4" groups. What more do you need? Heavy, long barrels are needed when you want to shoot alot, but for hunting you only...
I'm 57 and I personally resent your calling "Dad" an old man at 60-LOL
Sounds like using the Tikka as donor requires a short cartridge???
If you want long barrel life, go with a .308 win or the 7mm Rem.
With a 24-26" barrel both will do in up to large deer at long range.
To be just a tad...
