What is your best deer rifle

For accuracy, it's an Axis ll in 30-06, a serious tack driver. For dependability, a Remington SPS also in 30-06, and firelapped, Trigger Tech trigger, floated and glas bedded.

    Sierra tipped gameking (gamechanger) feedback.

My 30-06 was horrible untill after Tubbs Final Finish. The throat was longer, but bringing the bullet to 015” from jam gave a 1/2” 100 yd group with 56.5 grs of H4350

How critical is measuring powder to .01 grains

In my '06 57.0 grs of IMR 4350 is 1 1/4" @ 100 yds, but 57.5 grs is 1/2". (165gr Barnes TSX) Every gun is a law unto itself.....you have to try it to know.

Remembering the Older Days of Reloading/Shooting

Way back when I bought EVERYTHING I needed to reload my own for$50 from a guy I taught Hunter Safety alongside......press, scale, powder measure, dies, trimmer etc...... and all that for the 22/250 Rem 700 I only paid $105 for brand new!

    Tumble before or after de-priming?

I do it to be sure the resizing lube is removed, and to make it VERY shiny. I also use either Hornady media, (very fine stuff), or walnut shell media, to eliminate pieces of media blocking the flash hole. Just wiping the lube off the resized case doesn't really remove the lube completely.

Hello! New to Long Range Hunting Forum....sort of.

My preference is a 54 cal round ball gun. Just 90 grs FFG, and 225 gr ball wrapped in an .015 OxYoke pillow ticking. Gets the job done.

    Tumble before or after de-priming?

Deprime, clear primer pocket of carbon, tumble till bright, then lube, resize, tumble again, then trim.

71years old. Two heart valve replacements, three pacemaker replacements, congestive heart failure. And looking forward to deer season!

    Corrosion Inhibitor?

I just put mine in a sealed baggie, then back into the tumbler if they lose the shine before I need them. Cheap, and it works.....just did it for some 243 brass yesterday. Gave some thought to using vaccum bags, it worked with primers.

Hello! New to Long Range Hunting Forum....sort of.

Thank you birddog! While I do have a number of bear wander thru my backyard regularly, I never have tried hunting them. We had a 435 pound boar shot less than a half mile from here, and I have two sow with three cubs and two cubs respectively as regular visitors, so they are around. All I hunt...

Barnes 30 caliber 150/165 gr TSX bullet seating questions

I want to thank everyone who offered their help during my load developement. Here is the end result, and every option offered was explored: The stock had been drilled for the pillars slightly off center, but enough to cause movement when an action screw was loosed. Did some sand paper...

Barnes 30 caliber 150/165 gr TSX bullet seating questions

The answers to this thread are a real eye opener! Looks like the bullet depth and/or powder charge could go either way before the groups are smaller than an inch. I appreciate all the input.

Barnes 30 caliber 150/165 gr TSX bullet seating questions

Thanks Varmit Hunter. I have decided to give it a bit more time, and see what gets posted here. I'm a little surprised at the long jump, but nothing ever succeeds like success. So far you guys have taught me something new about solid copper bullets I wouldn't have thought about before.

Barnes 30 caliber 150/165 gr TSX bullet seating questions

Thanks guys. My Sierras are seated .015" off the lands, and a quick trip into the reloading room looks like the Barnes TSX bullets are about .050" off jam than the Gameking. I admit I'm a bit concerned with extending the OAL to match the Sierra's jump between Carlos' <.050" and Seabeeken's...
