Shepardsonp, What is the serial #on the can of H-1000 you using? I'm guessing its an older lot as the powder has gotten faster over the last year. This is not just my speculation as others have had the same results. My barrel is 30".

If you decide on H-1000 I recommend you work up from around 86 grains. I would have to check my notes but if I recall correctly 90.3 grains got me around 2950-ish with the 300 SMK. Definitely a little hot for this round (this was with a 338 RUM).

For what its worth with my 30"RUM shooting 300gr SMKs and H-1000 I run into pressure signs before I run out of case capacity.

I been working on a bunch of different H-1000 loads and here are two I have found are good in my rifle. 88.5 grains H-1000 with a 300gr SMK in a 30" barrel gives me a touch over 2850 FPS. I also run the 285 Barnes TSX with 89.1 grains of H-1000 with 2857 FPS.

Whatever route you decide on if you use H-1000 I would start much lower than 92.5 grains. The newest batches of this powder are much hotter and with 90.2 grains I was getting pressure signs and close to 2950 fps with the 300 SMK. My load is now 88 grains with 2850 fps in a RUM.
