300 blackout is too weak for deer (graphic)

One of the great things about solid copper is that even if you get lots of meat damage, you can safely feed that stuff to dogs. They love all that bloodshot meat. Just pic the bone fragments out.

Berger VLD Linked to Heart Failure….?

Congrats to your daughter, but a 9mm would have blown its lungs out, too. Or so I've been told.

What do you guys do in the off season?

During cabin fever season, if I'm not trapping, I'm making maple syrup or prepping for turkey season.

    Are you Satisfied?

I've got the powder and primers I need for for now, but I'm running low on .308 hunting bullets. I'm really busy with other pursuits, so I'm not currently looking, but I will stock hopefully later this year.

New to rifle reloading - Powder suggestions?

Yeah, sorry. I didn't realize I was dredging up an old one.

New to rifle reloading - Powder suggestions?

My buddy swears by Hodgdon's CFE 223 for his 223. I use it for my .308 bolt action and it's my favorite for that. Very consistent and low barrel fouling.

What is going on with Nosler?

I have seen blems that have missing or disfigured plastic tips and missing cannelures. I would not reload those for hunting. Other than that, I see nothing but discoloration.

    What would you change?

Load development. For that you need a solid rest to ensure repeatability. The combination of a good rest and a good load will give you a baseline for any improvements you make to a rifle.

    Looking for pass through

I've had a Nosler Partition pass through and drop one deer and spine one that was behind it, but I would still take the Barnes LRX at the range of less than 500 yds.

    Rifle for 10 year old.

I would take a different approach. A .357 magnum or .44 magnum carbine makes a really good youth gun. Their range is short but they make big holes and good blood trails. I know there are kids that are disciplined enough to shoot high velocity long range small bullets, but lots of kids do better...

    Powder Availability

After many months of checking online, I was finally able to score an 8# of CFE223 from PV. During that time, I watched as 1# containers and CFEBLK became available and was bought out quickly several times. It really seemed like just a matter of timing.

Shoot big game from the road/vehicle in wyoming?

It's been a few decades, but I recall meat hunting pronghorn on large private tracts near Gillette and it was legal to shoot from the bed of a stopped truck over the cab or from an open door. Some guys had special mounts on their trucks to steady their shots. Others just put a sandbag or their...

    New scope has me confused

I would use the Strelok app.

    Is faster better?

For a given bullet and a given barrel, there is an optimum velocity. If you exceed that optimum velocity, something will suffer. You don't want that to be the game you hunt. Usually, non-optimal velocity it will decrease accuracy, which translates to poor bullet placement on (or off) the target...

Reloading Brass Fired from Another Gun

The only time I had a problem with "memory" in brass from a different gun, I solved it by annealing the brass and holding it in the full length resizing die for about 10 seconds each case. This was thick Norma brass and it became some of the best I've used in that gun.
