    Reloader 26/Short Barrels

25-50fps is what is expected (per inch) velocity loss.. so your 185fps loss is right there.. You've discovered some great information,, regarding the faster powder velocity.. Thanks for sharing this!

    How do you eliminate runout

Have you tried unscrewing the cap of the die such that only 1/4 of your neck is sized? This is how top benchrest shooters set up. what kind of grouping are you getting with proper load development... ie have you shot anyway? it might be that it shoots well as is??

Issues w/a Proof Research Barrel and a cold bore shot

i built a bunch of rifles when I was shooting benchrest & of about 25 barrels I only had one that would put "cold" shot right with 2nd -5th.. I beleive your just plain lucky when you get one of these (mine was a true hummer in truest sense). Now cold bore for a sniper, i don't know how close...

    How do you eliminate runout

If you are loading for single round loading, adjust the neck bushing die such that it sizes only 1/4 of the neck, (this is common among winning benchrest shooters reloading). It is plenty to hold the bullet and most likely won't bend the neck... if you have "runout" before the reloading...

Is the .243 win on the way out?

I know the creedmoor is based on a Hornady proprietary cartridge, but it is so close to the "xc" diff is almost non-existent. (I have rifles of each, xc and creedmoors). & if xc hadn't won so much, creedmoor prob wouldn't have been considered from that brass (30 tc)\

Is the .243 win on the way out?

Nah, it won't,,, it's funny the 243 knocked the 250 savage off its popularity, now the creedmoors are popular, which based on 6xc (which was based on 22-250, from 250 savage).. see what i'm getting at,, "circle of cartridge life"! I built a 250 savage because my "xc" was so great (before...

What age do you think kids should start shooting?

I started my grandson shooting very young,, he was shooting off a little "bench" when he was 5 (22 chipmunk). When he was 7, I started him on my low recoil centerfire rifles. One I built especially for the up and coming grandsons is a predator action, edge stocked, hart barreled, jewell...

Should I bed? B&C M40 with Al Block

I used to build custom rifles, & i have had it both ways.. I built a 7mm-08 on a custom action & threw it in an HS precision (aluminum block) stock & it shoots with my bench guns.. (i gave this to a friend) I decided to build another for my grandson, same action, stock & it would barely group...

Hitting a softball at 1000 yds

having one of them prove such accuracy would be the trick, I've built 1000yd really heavy competition guns, & that boast would be really thin,,, Especially doing it "on demand". I'd put good money against it. It takes a lot more than the rifle to do that! Tons of practice reading wind and mirage...

    Jewell Trigger Failure...went to Trigger

i've got a canjar trigger that my late dad bought in the 70's, & it is purely awesome. I have no qualms with using it on any of my "bench" guns. & would not sell it for love nor money!

I was just wondering, I built a custom 7-08 & found to my surprise best accuracy with Fed premium with nosler partition bullet..(under 1/2 moa). I shot a couple of deer with it & exit wound was bigger than a coffee cup.! It's amazing how far a big whitetail can run with no heart & very little...

    Jewell Trigger Failure...went to Trigger

Jewell's are great benchrest triggers, but can be improved. the parts are bead blasted, if you polish this off you can/will see the numerous tool marks that need to be polished out (the housing wall and trigger parts polished to mirror finish really make it nice.). Also, Arnold Jewell told me...
