No, I've actually never shot hammers. Heard good things but never tried them. I'm actually not even sure how I ended up in this thread lol. I guess I wasn't paying attention. Sorry about the long post totally unrelated to the main topic.
I tried varget. I ended up at 45gr, which is about the norm for that combo. I loaded up to 48gr and really didn't see that much return on investment. 47gr was actually faster than 48 by 37 fps. I may revisit it with 155's. Anybody got a favorite recipe to share ?
I loaded 178 eld-m's this time...
I guess I'll have to hunt down some 175 tmk's. I've always preferred the 165-168 for my 308's since mine are 16 and 20 inch barrels, but I want a bullet that's well suited to effective terminal performance and shooting at distance.
The 168eldm seems to do well for most people but I haven't...
I always said if I built a quarter bore it would be a 257 Weatherby. The speeds y'all are posting is really making me want to do it again. What about a 257 weatherby AI ? I never have liked that double radius.
A past friend of mine improved a couple of the big Weatherby cases and man did they...
I wonder what a barrel with the correct twist rate for the lighter bullet would do for them? Say a winmag or a rum with a 14 twist. It'd be a one trick pony at thst point but it would be fast.
That's cruising out of a 16"
Factory tube or custom ?
Haven't chrono'd that load out of my 20" lilja but my 16" chrome lined MWS runs it right at 2,550. And loves it. That's been consistently good ammo for me.
My 700 LTR. I found it used at a local gun shop almost twenty years ago now. Only thing I changed was the stock. I put it in the hs police stock that it's in now. It always loved 168GMM.
This group was right after putting the rifle back together. I had robbed the bolt for another build and it...
I burned up a 22-250 in my teenage years shooting mostly 55gr pills. Occasionally 40's. But for me the 55's were the better all around bullets. Most of the time it was shooting pigs out around 300 yards in hay meadows.
After I smoked the barrel in that one I moved up to 243win and now 243AI...
Hornady isn't my first choice but when I couldn't get any 215 hybrids I bought some of the 212eldx. They weren't bad to tune. Haven't hit meat with them but they ring steel nice at a thousand.
I had a good load with 7828 in a winmag one time and I tried every large rifle primer I had. The results were interesting. Wish I would have kept that data. That was two barrels ago.
Cci no.34 were the hottest, by 30 plus fps, they were even hotter than a 215m. Cci 250's gave the best sd, and...
