    6.5 Bondstrike experience

Wife used the 6.5 creed factory ammo to shoot a mature mule deer buck at 296 yards last year. Died within a few steps after a broadside shot behind the shoulder. Buck died but I would have expected an exit, but didn't get one. Bullet found just under the hide on the backside. We didn't need to...

    Entry Level Scope Recommendation

Also, I would either make sure I bought something with either capped turrets or zero locking turrets. I had two instances last year where a scope got turned off zero. Checked it when I left the truck and it got turned by rubbing on my pack and I didn't catch it.

    Entry Level Scope Recommendation

I am going to add to the pile for the leupold vx3hd in an appropriate magnification. I like the 2-8 and the 3.5-10 for what you describe. One thing folks don't talk about much is the form factor between these scopes. I think your eye relief/mounting location options would be limited with any...

    Labradar accurate or hype?

The post above talking about BC is where your problem is I suspect. BC can be affected by many things in your rifle system. When the folks that make match bullets talk about truing, they take the labradar as close to gospel and adjust their BC to match. That said it might be worth finding...

Anyone shot deer with the 190grn Sub-x at 1050ish fps??

I tried this bullet for my work, which is hunting coyotes full time. In two nights I killed 8 coyotes and two badgers with it. Of those I had to shoot 3 coyotes and one of the badgers more than once. All of the shots that required follow-ups were what I would consider very acceptable hits on the...

Best 600y elk cartridge to built on top of 270 Win Tikka action

So I went through a similar thought process awhile back, and picked the 280AI. It's been a good shooter so far, but brass is a bit of a problem. The only factory brass available right now is Nosler, which wouldn't be my first pick honestly. That wasn't even available a few months ago when I...

    Norma Whitetail Soft Point

I bought a case of it in 6.5 creed to break in a Howa 1500 for my wife and get her practiced up, and have some good brass at the end, for not much more than the cost of norma brass. The stuff shoots very well, well under MOA, with ES less than 30. I'm impressed, impressed enough I ordered some...

    Zero thermal at range

It might be based on the units. I've pretty much exclusively used trijicon IR hunters, the 60mm the last few years (which is 4.5 base mag, might explain some of this), the 35mm before that. I have a pulsar helion pro on the way, I'll have to take a look through that the next time I'm shooting...

    Zero thermal at range

That's interesting, I've tried the electrical tape with several scopes and it never really worked for me unless I could put it in the sun. I always did it on cardboard not a white target though, I'll have to give that a try. When you used the foil did you tip the target back a bit?

    Zero thermal at range

What I did before I was told about the foil tape was to wire a single bulb socket from a string of Christmas lights to a battery pack (4 foot leads with alligator clamps for the stripped individual bulb sockets), and poke it through a small hole in a piece of cardboard. Gave a very small aiming...

    Zero thermal at range

So the trouble I had with the various heat based methods is that either it cooled off too fast, or it created a thermal bloom that was too large to give a precise aiming point. By using 1/4" wide foil tape and leaning the target back 10 degrees or so to reflect the (cold on thermal) sky, by...

    Zero thermal at range

Indoor range this wouldn't work, but the best I have found outdoors is shiny foil squares or small pieces of foil tape. The trick is to angle the target slightly backwards, so that the foil reflects the sky.

    Wife's 6.5 Creed for Africa

Nhhunter somehow I doubt the op could write off a trip to use a competitors bullets :) He is (I believe) one of the owners of Hammer Bullets.

HNB Coated Bullets Info & Advice Please

I don't think it's moly, I think it's hbn that was contaminated with cast lead bullets or using lead shot for a tumbling media. Either way my answer would be the same, if I had a bunch of the same bullet done that way I would use them. I wouldn't waste my time figuring out a load for them if I...

HNB Coated Bullets Info & Advice Please

Now that is a horse of a different color. If I had enough to burn a barrel out I would just find what they liked and shoot them. What I can't stand is having only a couple hundred of something done one way. By the time you figure the load out you have to start over with a new batch.
