I watched their videos more than a decade ago. I don't think they have made one in the last couple years. They were a great long range hunting team. You gave me hope!
I have an LPR 300 NMI that I'm running 180 gr hammer hunters through. I took one elk at 225 yards and one at 357 yards. Both shots performed perfect. I get honest 1/4 -1/3 moa 5 shot groups at 100 yards off the bipod and bench doing load development. I couldn't ask for a better build.
I’ve taken elk with my 6.5 SAUM, but I never will again. I much prefer the impact from even a 30-06. I would suggest the 300PRC. I have a Seekins PH2 and it’s extremely nice to shoot and accurate.
I ran a 338 LM Improved “reaper” from lane precision rifles. It was a 30” Bartline barrel. 3050 fps ish with the 300 gr Berger EH. It was heavy on my 10 mile + days of hiking so when I rebarreled I put a 30” proof cambered in 33XC. The reaper was extremely easy to get 1/2 MOA loads for, and...
I ram a 30-06 for 20 years and it did a fine job. I ran the 180 gr partitions. About 10 years ago I got a Lane Precision Rifles 6.5 SAUM. That’s when it was still a wildcat. I prefer the 6.5 SAUM for deer but I’ve shot elk with it and I think it’s just too small for elk. It’s ideal for deer...
I had a 338 LM improved from Lane Precision Rifles. It was built on an LPR custom defiance single shot action. I had it rebelled to a 33XC. I’m sure I did something wrong because load development was stupid easy. It’s very accurate and has great velocity and it’s not showing a single bit of...
I would suggest 300 PRC if you are going for elk in the future. With that CA would be my last choice. I have a few friends that went with CA, in different models. Every one of them has pressure issues and poor accuracy with factory ammo. I have a Seekins PH2 in 300 PRC and I have some hand...
I have a 300 PRC, a 300 Norma Mag improved, and a 33XC (Just part of the thread above). I use the 300 PRC for practice. My 300 NM-Improved for elk hunting, and the 33XC because I’m an idiot. The only con I’ve found with the 300 PRC I have is the chamber is set up for long bullets (a beauty...
I will never take another elk with the 6.5. Strictly my opinion, but I would use a 30-06 180 gr or bigger. With that said, if I only had a 6.5 (and mine is a SAUM) I think I would go with the monolithic. My second choice would be the 143 ELDX (which I’ve used on mane antelope and mule deer in...
