Barrel measures out at 1:10, which matches what one would expect in a factory SB prefix serial number 7mm Weatherby barrel. I have had no luck getting 168 and 162 grain bullets under 2", while my best loading with 140 AB's are around 1.5" at 100 yards. Beginning to think the rechamber was done...

I've been way too busy with work to finish working up a load for my Mark V. Have figured out it doesn't shoot the heavier bullets well, so focusing on 140 gr end of scale. That said, I did get an end of season whitetail hunt in with the STW since the scope on my old reliable 700 .270 is broken...

Thanks CZ. I worked my way up to that level with very little improvement in accuracy or speed, but no signs of over pressure. Have some RL25 now, but I'm on the road for work. Will give it and the 140's a try. ATB

Puzzling why Weatherby selected and stuck with 1:10 for so long. I understand the really old German guns were 1:12. Guessing it was all about hypervelocity, before high bc, long, heavy boat tailed bullets became a thing. Perhaps I need to try some good ole flat based spitzers. Picked up some...

Thanks for sharing Howard, impressive kill. I'm planning to try a cross canyon shot on an Aoudad if I can ever get this gun dialed in and an elk hunt is definitely on my bucket list.

CT's = the Nosler coated silver tips? Plugged numbers into this calculator which agrees with you... 168 is only marginally stable in 1:10 barrel with 140, 150 optimum. http://www.bergerbullets.com/twist-rate-calculator/ Still puzzling why there are so many recommending longer, heavier bullets...

Thanks WR. Any suggestions on what 150's to go with, what powder and what fps to expect? I have inexpensive Hornady Ballistic Tips in 150 coming, as well as some 175's. I've read 140's are not as accurate or as deadly. Seems like 150 Swift Scirocco IIs are popular...

https://www.ballisticstudies.com/Knowledgebase/7mm+Weatherby+Magnum.html Seems to say even the 180 VLD is a good performer in 7 Wby, so in theory should be even better in STW? The whole twist, velocity and long throat jump, yaw info is interesting but confusing. And, since my barrel is...

Yes, I've read some debate on suitability of twist rate for bigger projectiles, but a good many say not a concern. I will go both directions to see for myself.

Much appreciated. The gun is a US production Weatherby Mark V, rechambered from 7 Wby, 26" magnum contour factory barrel. I've free floated the barrel and bedded the action, modified trigger spring by cutting 1.5 coils and adjusted down to 2.5 lbs, but it's not real consistent per my gauge...

Thanks. Was talking to my smith and he strongly suggested heavier bullets and RL25. May pick up some and the Fed 215s too... And keep on trying.
