Not to be sarcastic but send it in and when you get it back, sell it and get an S20 Sako. I have 2, 6.5 creed and PRC. I have yet to get a group over 1.5 at the worst and with the right load .2 and .3 groups at 100, .5 and .75 @ 200. Just my 2 cent worth. I love my S20’s.

The 4x12 Swarofsky is a wonderful light weight scope with great glass. I am talking about thier lower priced model.

The 338-06 is a very versatile cartridge. It is the 06’s big brother. I would not rebarrel it if it shoots well. You can take it anywhere and not be under gunned except africa in some cases. Very lucky find.

What powder are you using? 40 grains should not be a stiff charge for the 7-08, unless you are using a very fast burning powder. I would recommend a slower burning powder.

The long range sometimes came with jeweled bolt depending on year of manufacture.

The price is the give away, if 600.00 it is most likely a Long Range and 900 to 1000 it is then most likely a sendero. My guess is a Long Range with the blued barrel. Still a fine rifle.
