    Barrel break in accuracy

Are you sure it is the bore of your new barrel, could it be your stock, or something else? You might have checked all these things already but it is something to think about. I suggest you methodically eliminate things so you don't chase your tail for months. I have had trouble for years with...

    300 WM with Norma 217

Has anyone loaded Norma 217 for a 300 Win Mag? I plan to try a 199gr Hunting Hammer or a 200gr Accubond. There is no load data on this combo from Norma, Nosler, Barnes. I bought this powder for my 28 Nosler but did not like the results. Now during the powder famine - I am willing to try it.

Barnes 165 LRX in 300 Win Mag

Thanks - how far off the lands did you start? I have found that Barnes likes a big jump like .05 or more. Wonder what you found.

What results did you achieve with the Barnes?

What kind of Sling do you use?

Everyone has their own system. But I have learned that you need multiple options while mountain hunting. I use a sling and have a method of strapping to my back-pack. I use the traditional rifle sling when I need the rifle at the ready and strap the rifle to my pack with a backpack rifle...

    Scammer on Powder "Alphex Firearms"

I guess a sucker is born every minute....I am in it. I did not see this thread and tried to purchase powder on Alphaex Jan 12. The order never went through and nor was my card charged but then I had two unauthorized charges on my card at restaurant in Nebraska on Jan 18.

Mandl - what case trim length do you use on the Hammers? Barnes suggests 2.580 and Nosler lists 2.590. thanks

What made you interested in long range shooting?

16 years ago I was on a bow elk hunt in WY. A buddy shot a bull but impacted it too far back for a quick kill. We tracked it and a local friend brought along a 7mm Rem Mag just in case (our WY tag and district were not weapon dependent). We bumped the bull, but it stopped 720 yards away. A...

Load Data 28 Nosler 168gr LRX

Thank you Mandl....this is exactly what I needed. Have you tried the 143 gr Hammer Hunters? They recommended I load a few because he can get 3600 ft-sec at the muzzle. I worry about that much speed with close shots but willing to load a few for fun

    Bullet failures

I have never had a bullet failure which I define as a bullet did not perform as designed. I have made more than a few bad shots, and lost wounded animals due to my poor shooting. I also have used bullets I did not understand with bad results. The problem with bullets like everything else, is...

Load Data 28 Nosler 168gr LRX

Has anyone had experience loading the 168gr LRX in a 28 Nosler cartridge? Looking for some suggested powder and other load data.

Berger VLD Hunting for Elk - Success??

Thank you for all the responses. Did not mean to open old wounds. Just looking to learn from others.... I really like the accuracy of the Bergers and would like to keep using them for longer ranges (beyond 125 yards with velocities ~3,000fps). Of course, I could just carry my 30-06 with a...

Old eyes struggling to read the turret?

Clearly (ha ha), I am not the first to snuggle with this issue. Thank you for a the good suggestions. I will look into the label maker or even the nail polish solution. The magnifier looks cool. Can't wait to see 338 Dude's new solution / patent. Thanks all...

Old eyes struggling to read the turret?

I have gotten old enough to need reading glasses. I struggled this season seeing the ballistic turret in low light conditions but then had a hell of a time using reading glasses in the urgent seconds of set-up for a shoot in the mountains. This is never an issue in practice but at game time I...
