Any experience with a 270 Redding?

Years ago I bought a nice little Savage 99, chambered for a 270-300 Savage wildcat. The name of the wildcat escapes me right now, but it certainly killed deer handily and made for an easy carrying hunting package. REN maybe? Hmm. I swapped it for a 50-70 rolling block, in my bigger is better...

    7mm stw or 28 nosler?

Only true in some chambers and with some brass, in my experience. .

    7mm stw or 28 nosler?

True, but once you have fired your brass once, it is headspacing on the shoulder as well, at least as long as you don't push it back too far. I've never had an issue with this in belted cases, and I've had a lot of rifles that use them (still do). FWIW - dan

    300 Weatherby

I've had most 30 cal magnums at one time or another. Just sold my 300 RUM. It wouldnt do anything on game that the the 300 Wby wouldnt do. Was better for pushing heavy for caliber bullets at LR targets though. - dan

    300 Weatherby

I use RL22 in my 340 with good results. Will push a 250 gr bullet within 50 fps of my 338 Lapua. - dan

338 Lapua reloading with 250 Berger and H1000, question on expected speed.

A crimp will help with that. - dan

338 Lapua reloading with 250 Berger and H1000, question on expected speed.

My 338 Lapua (a Sako) would push 250's to about 2960. This was with Retumbo or RL25. It wasnt much faster than my 340 Wby though, maybe 20 fps. - dan

Your favorite Quarter Bore and why

Depends on how much you want the gun to weigh, and what you're going to hunt. 257 Bob, with a faster twist for heavier bullets would be a fine choice for most things, and I've owned quite a few different 25's. - dan

Any gains to a gain twist?

I have a few gain twist barrels on rifles, as we have a good 'smith not too far away that makes them. Sadly retiring I hear. In any case, I have had them in 340 Wby, 7 STW and 6mm Mach IV. All were accurate, all were slightly faster than the same cartridges I had in other rifles with std twist...

    7mm Mag

Gunwriter Ross Sigfried (sp?) Made one up on an improved 7 rem mag case. Designed the whole rifle around Barnes 85 gr X bullets. Called it the Mach IV. I thought it was a grand idea, being young and impressionable at the time, so i built one. Pushed those 85 gr bullets ober 4000 fps. - dan

    Anybody reload at the range?

I have a range loading setup I use. Basically a Lee turret press mounted to a 2x6, and a few c clamps to attach it to the bench. Scales in box to keep the wind out. Works fine, just another box to carry to the range though. - dan

What to do with older 22-250

I have both a 22-250 and a 22-250 AI built on Rem 700's. The Ai version will do anything a 22 Creedmore will do (as will the 22-243 Middlestead, but that's another tale). If you are in need of a fast 22, any of those will work well. Get a quick twist though. - dan

AR-10 build for speed (220 Swift or 22-243)

I run a 22-243 Middlestead. it is faster than my Swift, but not by a lot. It should feed from a 308 mag, mine feeds from a standard 243 Win mag. - dan
