    Comfortable shooting magnum caliber

I agree with the first three. The 6.5-06 is not a good choice for the factory ammo shooter - much better to go with the 6.5PRC in the long run. My 7mm RM recoils about like many .30-06 loads. My .300Wm adds significant recoil but significantly less than my .338WM.

    New build 6.5/06

Mine is a 6.5-06AI using a 22" heavy/flutes Krieger 1-8 match barrel on an Interarms Mark X action. I size .25-06 vreass and fireform with a Horandy full power 140g/H4831 6.5-06 load. I lose about 5% velocity with the fireform loads, but they are extremely accurate so I don't care. These days...

    Why Berger?

I wouldn't change a thing if you are happy with the way the TSX and Scirocco work. I'm a big fan of the TTSX and LRX in all my rifles (not the TSX) and the Scirocco II have been very good for me in my 6.5-06AI as well. I refuse to use Berger or other thin-skinned bullets for my big game...

Well finally did it...sold all my reloading stuff !! Anyone else shooting factory ?

I'm now assigning $1,630/hour as the time value of my labor spent reloading, based on the cost of custom ammo, which is what I build. Or $0.00 depending on how I feel. You are right. It isn't complicated.

    2900 Fps .308?

I agree. My safe holds a .300BLK (AR), .30-30, .308 (AR), .30-06 and .300WM. If I want to push velocity I just step up to the next bigger cartridge. Safety first.

Well finally did it...sold all my reloading stuff !! Anyone else shooting factory ?

Just contacted a custom ammo maker. Sample packs of 40 rounds each cost about $350 each and it may take multiple packs to find a good load for a particular rifle. Or I could send them a rifle and they would do the load development for it. (For a substantial fee.) Even if I sent them very...

Well finally did it...sold all my reloading stuff !! Anyone else shooting factory ?

I do, and I will continue to do so. If I include tools and amortize by the year, it comes to around $33 per year. Amortizing by cartridge, it comes to about $0.05 or $1 per box. A LOT of my brass came to me for $0.00. Free. I am not going to assign a $$ value to it when I calculate reload...

    Savage 110 ultralight 6.5 PRC

I have a Savage long I'm planning to rebarrel, probably to 6.5PRC. That will let me set the bullets out as far as I want.

Well finally did it...sold all my reloading stuff !! Anyone else shooting factory ?

For $600, at $20 per box, I can only get 600 rounds of 6.5CM ammo. For $600 in components, I can get 1,500 rounds by reloading. Why would I value my reloading time at $75/hour? I don’t do that for anything I do for recreation – time spent not worrying about making money but still concerned...

Well finally did it...sold all my reloading stuff !! Anyone else shooting factory ?

In an earlier post, I listed the cost of my reloads vs current factory offerings. I am relisting them here for purposes of illustration (read so I don‘t have to keep going back to the other post). Hornady 140g ELD-M $8.02 = reload $26.39 = Hornady Match Hornady 143g ELD-X $11.65 = reload...

Well finally did it...sold all my reloading stuff !! Anyone else shooting factory ?

As with you, guns are tools to me. I'm not particularly concerned about how they look but any rifle that doesn't shoot goes down the road. A couple of my rifles have long, heavy barrels, making them more suited to bench shooting than carrying around the mountains hunting elk. For them I want...

To those that feel MY time spent reloading could be / should have been spent with family or making money... First, a lot of my reloading time WAS spent with family. Second, why are you posting stupid stuff on this forum? Why aren't you spending your time with your family or making money?

Heading down to the reloading room now and leaving stupid arguments about how I value MY time behind. SIL got about 600 pieces of once-fired 5.56, mostly LC but with a few others thrown in. He plans to reload it for use in Daughters AR-15. I'm going to size/deprime the cases, swage the...

Well said. I will add that in my case - and I suspect yours and many others - reloading saved enough money that they got to shoot far more often while raising their family. As a new father I though kids would get cheaper when they got out of diapers. (Boy, was I WRONG!) Saving money by...
