Looking for step down from a 7mm

one more thing, I've been reading about brakes not ported all the way around affecting accuracy..... not sure if that's true or not. Looking at APA brakes right now, not sure if that a good start but shopping around and hope to get some help from you guys.

Looking for step down from a 7mm

Would like to address one more thing that's pretty important for the gun and that is the muzzle brake. If im spending this money I would prefer a break that's somewhat tuned for the caliber or atleast a little research done with them vs just throwing a catch all on there unless you guys...

Looking for step down from a 7mm

Leaning toward the smaller of the two basically due to recoil... I like the .284 but not the recoil for the family, 6.5-284 would be a home run but barrel wear is little issue I guess. With a good brake what would the 6.5-284 and .284 compare to recoil wise. I guess im a little embarrassed...

Looking for step down from a 7mm

Ok good deal. Narrowing down to 2 now. 6.5-284 vs straight .284 Would like to get some insight here. Recoil comparison... Both will be braked. My wife will be using this gun when she hunts. No way she's gonna touch the 7mm. Definitly would go the 140 Vld on the 6.5, .284 probably...

Looking for step down from a 7mm

Putting a brake on the 7 was the first fix, but got overruled by my Dad. Out of all the stuff we picked out, Mcmillian, jewel, Krieger, stiller, etc. The one thing he said was, NO BRAKE on the Elk gun. Being that we're splitting all this I made my case for it but am letting that go. After...

Looking for step down from a 7mm

I was really thinking 6.5-284 until I went over to accurate shooter and read about it being really finicky, wasn't a lot of threads but quite a few people on one thread if I remember right.... Now I'm set back a bit about it. I need some reassurance I guess or better option.

Looking for step down from a 7mm

My Dad and I are having a fully custom 7mm built for long range elk and whitetail. its being built with no brake to save some ears with the group we hunt with etc. I will be working up a load with it using 180gr VLD's. I would like to get a second gun built that will be good competition to the...
