Deer Lease questions for a newb

I lease my ranch 2 hrs NE of Dallas for comparable rates. That close means you will get a lot of use. Go for it and next year talk to the owner about setting bag limits based on management practices. If there are pigs. And I can’t imagine that there aren’t you can do a lot of hunting.

    Rem 700 light primer strikes

Seriously???? LOL. That would have to be a smokeless muzzle loader. 110 gr BULLET over Winchester 748. Don’t remember the weight of powder. It was 45 years ago and I was in in high school. They had been loaded a couple of years before they malfunctioned. Thinking powder expanded over time...

    Rem 700 light primer strikes

I once had a compressed load that backed out the primer just enough that I didn’t notice it, but would fail to fire on the first or second time.

270 Winchester, 6.5-06, or 25-06 Fast Twist Deer Rifle

What he said. I have both and love them both equally, but if I already had a 300 and a 35 and had to choose, I would make a larger leap down to the 25-06.

    12GA Rounds for Grizz?

Like the deputy said, "I ain't gonna get shot for lack of shootin back". Always a good idea to have spray or pistol or better yet both attached to your person in addition to a long gun. You don't want to be elbow deep gutting an elk with your long gun leaning on a tree ten feet away or your...

    Accustock bottom metal.

I bought my first Savage 110 for a smokeless muzzleloader project. I need to find a mag well/bottom metal to close the bottom and shim for the front action screw. Any help is appreciated.

    Utah cow and Barnes TSX

Thanks for this post. Since joining this forum, I have seen a lot of folks that hate Barnes, and it is making me wonder. I have mixed results with TTSX. 210 grain 338 win mag on an oryx was an almost lengthwise pass through. Good expansion and penetration and it dropped in its tracks. 150...

    Which caliber

In Montana, my son carries a 4.5" Freedom Arms .454 with 330 gr hard cast handloads. My daughter-in-law carries a S&W M&P with Lehigh Defense Penetrator handloads. I carry a 4.5" Super Blackhawk .44 with 300 gr hard cast handloads. All are carried across the chest. So I would say that you...

    Round Steaks

As others have said, in one way or another, it is all about how you process it and prepare it. Aging does help, however, not as much as with fatty, marbled meat. Pre salting is huge. Medium rare is more tender than well done. If you like it well done, you must cook low and slow. I make pot...
