Whitetail: Picking Un-scouted Spots From a Map

We ended up being successful. They killed their deer so I went back out on my own for two other days. I put in 8 miles the first day and saw a 9 point but couldn't get off a shot. Another hunter had shot him across the front of the chest and injured him. He was limping on three legs. I tracked...

    Berger vs ELDX on steel

Very hard question to answer without doing lots of testing with each. It depends on shot placement, what animal is being hunted, velocity, bullet construction (the parts we don't know like jacket thickness), and other variables. Just based on wild guesses, I would speculate that the Bergers...

    What's your favorite Hot Rod?

I got a 2010 Camaro with a highly modified LS3. It’s basically a race car. It still has A/C though! It has kirkey seats, a 5 point harness, open headers, and a lot of the car has been gutted. I just rebuilt the top end and threw in a new cam this past winter. 376 cu in, all aluminum (block and...

    Berger vs ELDX on steel

Basically the energy of the solid, more fine tip is focused on a smaller surface area. All that energy transferred to such a small surface area surpasses the strength of the material and the bullet begins to penetrate. Heat is a byproduct of that transfer of energy from pressure, friction, etc...

    Why I Hunt

I've hunted my whole life but I hunt now because I believe in being able to provide for my family and myself. Hunting is just one part of many that I try to practice often to meet that goal. I'm well aware on how fragile our infrastructure is in the U.S. It's frightening to realize how many...

$1000 or less Hunting scope advice for Rem 700 30.06

Vortex PST Gen 2, Zeus’s Conquest V4, and Burris XTR 3 (little above budget but is a great scope). Those are the only ones I’d be willing to spend the money on. Trijicon also has some scopes in that range that I hear are great but I’ve personally never used them.

Happy Birthday Marines - Semper Fi

It’s a great day indeed. I got a cake cutting ceremony to go to but after that we are going to drink the house down.

    Berger vs ELDX on steel

I'm an engineer by trade but I don't have a lot of info on your setups. I'd say tip design is a big factor. You have a plastic tip where as his tip is copper. Essentially, your bullet is striking the target and is being slowed down and prematurely expanded by the plastic tip as it crushes...

    Savage Impulse builds?

Mine is the bottom bolt release as well. A stock with the ergonomics I want is the only thing keeping it from being my favorite rifle.

    Savage Impulse builds?

I'm not a fan of them constantly changing stuff which really hurts their aftermarket support but I LOVE how they shoot. My Savage 4.4" in .308 is my most accurate rifle and it's also my cheapest. To top it off, it still has the factory barrel and a cheap stock that I bedded. It consistently...

    Turret Reliability Improvement

That’s because Leupold knows their stuff doesn’t track. Haha. None of my issued Leupolds tracked right except the Mark 8 and it ended up breaking midway through a deployment anyway. Those experiences really turned me away from Leupold. Mind you, it was issued stuff so it probably seem 3 other guys.

What is a Really Good Hunting Knife

Bradford USA. This particular one is in CPM M4. Hard to sharpen but holds an edge longer than just about every steel except M390 and maybe one or two others. It’s about the best all around steel IMO.
