The grit I start lapping with depends on how bad the lug contact is to start with. I may have to start with 120 sometimes. Usually finish up with 320 or 400 IIRC. I have a abrasive lapping kit from Brownells that has 5 or 6 different grits. Keep those lugs greased afterwards! BP

Yes, I would go 3/4 for the larger 338 barrel.

I see what you’re saying where. Kinda depends on the barrel’s bore diameter. I would use 5/8-24 unless you’ve got a bore larger than .308. There are brakes available in 11/16-24 also. BP
