Hello all I wanted to make an update to this post with my progress thus far. I have finally have all of the optics related items in and plan on setting up the rifle in the next few days. It will be a Savage 12FV in .308, mounted a SWFA 16x42 scope on a 20 MOA short action EGW base. The scope...

Good Evening Igordee, Thank you that was the clarification I was looking for.

Muleystalker gohring3006 igordee captnc MudRunner2005, I hear you guys loud and clear, I will definitely not be using red loctite on any of the screws. I am completely on board with that. What I am asking is should I be using it between the scope base and the reciever. If you look at the video...

Thank you for your response gohring3006, This is my first .308 bolt action that I've personally owned. Once I mount the scope, I don't intend on ever taking it off (as long as it keeps working). About the only other thing I may do is swap out the stock with an adjustable. I saw the Boyds At-One...

I have started to watch the Rex Sniper 101 videos that are posted in this thread. In the past, I have steered clear of anything that that seemed to carelessly throw around the term sniper. After watching a handful of that guy's videos, I believe it is fair to say he really does know his stuff...

Hello Muleystalker, My EGW base arrived yesterday. I'm just waiting on the loctite and I'll try mounting the scope. It did come with screws and a bit for a screwdriver.

Hello nkyshooter, Seeing videos like this reaffirms my decision to go with the SWFA scope. While I did pick up the 16x version, I still think it fit my use well.

I wanted to update my comments here to clarify my goals and some of my terminology. While I have been shooting since I was around 6 or 7 years of age, most of my formal marksmanship training came while i was in the USMC. While I was in, the Corps trains you to accurately engage targets at 200...

Hello KyCarl, I'm hoping that the SWFA scope is solid where it counts. Judging by what others have said, it should fit the bill for what I'm looking for.

Thanks Igordee, I hope so too! Going off of the reviews I have read and the testimonials from members of this site, the SWFA scope seems to be an excellent scope with out any of the bells and whistles. It kind of remindes me of my first car: stick shift, manual windows and locks, no air...

I'm looking forward to finding out how it shoots! I just need a scope base with screws, red and blue loctite, identify my ammunition, and a day at the range!

Igordee, We are on the same page. While Carlos Hathcock may have been able to hit a 2 inch dot 1500 meters away with an 8 power scope, I most certainly don't have that level of skill. I eventually chose the 16x mil-quad scope because 10x seemed too small for a1000 yards, and I thought 20x would...

Hello woodnut, I agree with you that there isn't much point in buying cheap junk and trying to dress it up. While I've been trying to spend as little as possible, I've only been picking up things that have real usable value. I'm sure there is a lot of quality and merit in buying a $5000+ rifle...

Just called them up. The 10% off sale is only for item's not already on sale. I picked up the 16x42 Mil-quad reticle with a sun shad, rings, and a level for $279 shipped. That seems like a hell of a deal.
