    28 Nosler and 162 ELDX

Interesting. I never tried them at the lands or close. My gunsmith gave me the load data that has worked for almost all the 28's he's built and mine was no exception. I'm getting 3264 fps out of a 26" Proof barrel using 81.0g H1000. I think I'll load up a few with a .020 jump just to...

    28 Nosler and 162 ELDX

Anyone having any luck with the 162's using H1000? I've done pretty well with them and noticed they like a huge jump. I'm getting sub half moa at 2.68" to ogive (3.361 OAL) Just curious if others have experienced the same.

    Proof barrel question

Right on. I appreciate the tips. I pretty much have the same plan. I still have 40 pieces of new brass to fire form, which will put my round count at 70 when I start load development.

    Proof barrel question

Did your 28 Nosler shoot well right out of the gate or did you see increasing speeds/accuracy at some point? I've owned a couple custom built guns and have never done a traditional barrel "break in". Both those guns shot sub half inch MOA.

    Proof barrel question

Rounds 25-30. I wasn't worried too much about it. More so just curious if there was something different with it being a carbon barrel vs the standard. I appreciate the tip.

    Proof barrel question

Looking for some first hand experience from Proof owners. I just had my 28 Nosler built and had an interesting set of data as far as speeds. I shot one fouler round and then a 5 shot group. Speeds were as follows, in order. 3305, 3297, 3272, 3274, 3276, 3278 The 5 shot group was quarter...

    .243 or 7mm-08??

Thanks for all the tips and comments! I decided to go with the 7mm-08. Probably won't have time to develop a good load before the deer hunt starts in a few weeks, but that won't matter much. I'm sure I can get her plenty ready using factory ammo for now. Thanks again!

    .243 or 7mm-08??

She's shot maybe 50-60 rounds off the bench with my 22.250. I would give her a "good" grade. Not excellent but certainly not bad. She has no real world hunting experience with a rifle though. I would say a forgiving rifle would be a plus until she becomes more experienced.

    .243 or 7mm-08??

Looking for a few thoughts and opinions on these two calibers. I'm considering buying a new gun for my girlfriend. It will be primarily a Coues deer rifle, with antelope a possibility as well. She's 5'10" around 140 so I'm just a tad concerned with recoil. I will develop a load to be as...

    Dial adjustment question.

I've got an older leupold VX3 6.5x20x40AO and I'm wondering how I find out how much elevation dial adjustment it has? My first thought was to just start turning it to the end and count clicks. Then turn the other way to the end and count clicks, making sure of course that I write down the...

    Switching powders--pressure question

Oh crap I read that wrong. It's 49.5. **** dislexia kicking in. Glad you said something and made me recheck. That could have been a disaster.

    Switching powders--pressure question

I've never loaded under 48 grains and I don't get any pressure signs at all until 50.8 grains and that was with the bullets .010 into the lands. I've never known a published max load to be an actual max load. They are published low to cover their asses from liability issues.

    Switching powders--pressure question

I haven't shot it at all yet. My max load with the 4831sc is just under 51.0 grains. I was planning on starting around 48.5 grains with the H4350.
