    30 TC

I have an Encore in 30TC. The factory ammo I bought was so hot it split the cases. I pulled the bullets, dumped the powder, and reloaded with a milder load. I'm not very impressed with it. My 308 will do everything it will and more.

How to know what powder is used in a manufactured cartridge

Several years back, I was able to buy some powder in quantity that came from St. Marks Powder Company. It was made to sell to one of the major companies and they rejected it. A gentleman who deals in Large Quantities of surplus (both military and commercial) powders bought the entire lot. We...

    Pillar bedding tubberware stock

I have used threaded lamp tubing for making pillars. It works very well for me. I have also stiffened tupperware stocks by using a mix of epoxy mixed with iron filings along with small fiberglass rods that come out of fiber optic cable as the strength member. I lay the rods along the length of...

    Thickest 30-06 brass?

Some of the Privi Partizan brass has been softer than I am used to. The brass flows at lower pressure loads than any of the LC brass I have used. That has been my experience with 308, 30-06 and 22-250 Good brass, just softer than I prefer.

    New Guy question

I know this won't work at most ranges, but for long range visual verification of hits, we use plastic snuff containers (About the size of a hockey puck) filled with binary target mix. You can readily see the puff of white smoke with a hit and painting them international orange makes it easy to...

Have you taught anyone to reload ?

I've taught about 20 folks to reload over the past 50 years. Several of them have taught others as they progressed. It is a good thing to help keep reloading alive and well.

    Thoughts on Lever Action

I have several lever action rifles, a couple of Winchester 94's in 30-30, several 92's, 357, 44 mag, 45 colt and a Marlin 95 in 45-70. I don't have scopes on any of them and these old eyes are finding it more difficult to use the Buckhorn type sights these days. Great shooting rifles and about...

Savage 110 Hunter -- Experience? Using this for semi-custom?

I've built ten Savage actions over the years, great actions and easy to spin on a different barrel and commence shooting. I've built a couple for accuracy and bench shooting as well. The key is to start with a trued action and a good stock. Then add a good trigger. If you have one of the...

    22-250 for deer?

My state Oklahoma, requires minimum of 55 grain bullets in 22 centerfire rifles. Most of those older 22-250 twist rates won't stabilize heavier bullets. I've worn out two 22-250 rifles over the years and love it for varmint shooting. White Tail Deer will certainly fall with a well placed shot...
