for hunting deer the .308 is good enough if it doesn't drop you are TOO far away from the game ..sharpen your hunting skills and get closer to the game [thats what hunting is all about ].... you should be ok with the .308 .
muzzleloaders are very accurate up to 100 yds............ bow and arrow up to 35 yds ........... centerfires if the hunter does his part 300 yds .......... hunting is getting close to the game so you can harvest the animal without wounding it and turning it into coyote food ......

i also have a Browning a- bolt 300wsm with boss and have shot a few bears when caribou hunting in northern Quebec ..the 180 gr.Winchester supreme accubond has always worked well for me ..the bear is the only game i will shoulder shoot ,it nails them on the spot ..don't like to run after wounded...
realy surprized that some hunters have a problem with the ENCORE i have had 7 muzzeloaders and kept only one my ENCORE it is very accurate at 100 yds. butttttt it likes a CLEAN BORE ,so for accuracy i swap the bore after each shot ..i have found that for a hunting bullet the BARNES EXPANDER 250...
tests were made on the range with muzzeloaders and if you want accuracy the ML.shoots better with a CLEAN BORE ..
the centerfire is more accurate with a FOULED BORE ...
tried the .150 gr. bullets for more speed but accuracy went down the drain ,returned to .180gr. bullets and it worked for me . even with the BOSS on my browning a-bolt i could not stabilize the .150 winchester supreme accubond .
just ordered the Savage weather warrior [16fcss] in .243 would like some feed-back from hunters on this forum ..i will try the Winchester xp3 bullets in .95grains. for bears and deer ..
