    true freebore

Yes, and I thank everyone for their responses. Always helps to have other inputs. Especially when they know more than I do. That is how I have learned.

    true bullet diameters

Don't have another one readily available. May pick up a digital one, but haven't had any need up till now. This one is geared, smooth, zero's so don't see how it could have changed gear ratios midstream.

    true bullet diameters

I just took some measurements on some of my bullets. The 257's were measuring .255. Same at the very base. This was true on some 120's and 117's. Some 277's measured .274". 308's measured .306". Is this common or just my bullets? Maybe it is a safety factor thrown in by the manufacturers...

    true freebore

If working with one cartridge/load/bullet for one rifle, I would concur. But I have (2) 30-06. (2) 25-06, (4) 243, had (3) 222 and will have (4) 223 plus incidental like 22-250, 219 Zipper, etc. Trying to balance each one individually would mean individual loads, and conditions, for each rifle...

    true freebore

That is the way that I catalog the bullets. I use .002 below the base diameter as the reference for the ogive. The "cartridge freebore" is my working freebore. That is what the cartridge actually sees. There is no support between the end of the case and the beginning of the bore. That includes...

    true freebore

For me it is part of my engineering OCD. I have numerous centerfires that I reload for. I have multiple bullets for most. What I have done is create an Excel spreadsheet that lists the dimensions of each. In that way I can predict, and verify the outcome. I just found a new Marlin XL7...

    true freebore

For that reamer, I would calculate the "freebore" to be 2.603" - 2.517" or 0.086".

    true freebore

That is the confusion. If it is the ogive, then there is no absolute freebore measurement for any rifle. It is relative to the cartridge/bullet combination. So, the term "the rifle has ".xxxx" freebore is meaningless. However, headspace should be limited to the case and should be independent...

    true freebore

I've searched quite a bit on various forums and get a variety of definitions. None of which I can accurately relate. So, here is my question. Based on SAAMI 30-06 the measurement from base to the end of the case is 2.502". Measurement to the taper to inside neck diameter is 2.5228" (.0208"...

    243 - 55 grain - free bore

As I understand they are for the Australian market. They are not available directly from Nosler dealers. The only place I've seen them is at the Shooters Pro Shop as 2nd's or over runs. Make for cheaper target shooting and are pretty devastating from what I have read.

    243 - 55 grain - free bore

What I am trying to figure out is how much freebore is really being applied. This is with the Nosler 55 grain SHOTS bullet. It is only 0.595" long. There is only 0.175" (4.32mm) from the base to the beginning of the ogive. Inserting 3mm (0.122") into the case leaves only 0.053" from the front...

    243 - 55 grain - free bore

I picked up some 55 grain Nosler SHOTS bullets for the 243's. These are only 0.595" long. Don't have a chance to get to the range yet. Thought I would try and get some others' experiences with them. My concern is the free bore. With 1 caliber neck retention the free bore on the 4 rifles is...

    rounds to take hunting

I appreciate the info. I have been somewhat ammo starved over the past 30 years while hunting. Not that I didn't have "something", just that I have always used Nosler Partitions and never had a really good supply due to cost. So, a few Partitons and the backup was something used for practice...

    rounds to take hunting

How many you have in the truck is the answer I was looking for. If going on a 5 day hunt that is not home based, how many shells would you load up to take?

    rounds to take hunting

If you are going out for a remote hunt (not a day hunt), how many rounds do you typically take with you? Say a 5 day, big game hunt, that is not readily accessible to purchase ammo.
