Anyone use a 7MM08 Ackley here??

J E Custom, Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps a bit off-topic, but I'm curious if the WSM requires a Wyatt's mag box (?).

The alternatives mentioned may or may not fit in the magazine box of a short action Remmy without compromising the distance to lands.

Anyone use a 7MM08 Ackley here??

Kenny Jarrett sez this on his Pet Calibers page: The 7mm-08 Ackley Improved has been very popular with us for many years. Most importantly, it provides high end .280 Remington performance in a short action receiver. Most of our 7mm-08 Imp. rifles have a fairly short barrel, usually no longer...

    adl/bdl

At least theoritically the ADL configuration without the "bottom metal" should be lighter and stiffer. I've had both, and don't know that I buy the stiffer part, but for a light mountain rifle I've gone the ADL-configuration route.

1:9 should be good for up-to 69gr or so. Slower would be more optimal for 50gr, but it should shoot the lighter bullets pretty well also.

700 sps or model 10 fp?

Have you read Jerry Teo's article: Long Range Hunting Rifle On A Budget? I've owned 6 Rem 700s, but reading his article makes me want to try a Savage due to the ease of user barrel swaps and the lack of need for action blueprinting.

I'm new here and hoping to learn all I can re: equipment and techniques for long-range field shooting. I used to be obsessed with hunting in years past, but family and career priorities have put that on the back burner in recent history. I have been more focused on defensive shooting over the...
