I primarily hunt moose and caribou to fill the freezer annually. Late season moose is my favorite time of the year. I have also hunted both species of bear, goats, sitka blacktail, wolves, and I'm planning my sheep hunt for next august whether I draw a tag or have to hunt a general harvest area.

Do yourself a favor and get one of the Mcarbo trigger springs, should take it down to right at or near 2 lbs. I will second this I just swapped out the spring in my x-bolt with the mcarbo spring and its running right at 2lbs +/- an ounce or two on the scale.

I live in Alaska and hunt the same way your talking about. I either leave the gun on my back or in a hard case. Never mount the gun to the rack or in handlebar type mounts, its just the nature of the game.

I don't really see the two rifles mentioned as comparing apples to apples. The speed in 300 would be a great light weight hunting rifle compared to the ridgeline for quite a bit less. The Hells Canyon LR would excel with the heavies given that you could seat them properly.
