I looked at an old Savage 110E tonight in .270. Looked nice but nothing fancy. I have no idea how old it was but it had iron sights and a synthetic stock if that means anything. It had a really light trigger. I'm guessing 2-3lbs. I was shocked how light it was since it was pre-accutrigger...
I'm looking into one (Savage 16 Stainless - pre accu) and curious what the opinions on this caliber are?
I was wanting a 308 just because of how common it is (easy to get brass). But before I rule out the 270 WSM being offered, I figured I'd ask for some opinions.
My only complaint with the trade is the cartridge and that it's an older model. I'm not too sure about 270 WSM and also reloading for it. I read one bad story about not being able to get a good load for the 270wsm in a model 16 Savage, I realize that's only one story so credibility may be...
Curious of a few things:
1. Stainless Savages and accuracy vs standard steel
2. 16 vs other models (say 10, 11, 12, and the 110, 111). I don't care about pretty so much and am not interested in paying for anything but function out of a deer rifle / target gun.
I'm considering a trade of a...
Best current deal on a scope?
I'm in the market for a decent rifle scope. Any good deals to be had right now? Looking to spend $100-$300 and use it for a 308 bolt action for paper and hunting. Looking for good sales on scopes.
That's an interesting read. There are two opposing trains of thoughts. He seems sure having a repeatable hold on the gun and controlling the recoil is the best idea. I've seen others who think letting the gun react should create the best repeatability. I would think that letting the gun react...
I guess I'm coming from a spring airgun perspective. Managing the recoil is make or break between an accurate shooter and a beginner. I would think to some degree recoil management would effect the shot placement of any gun, no?
In shooting springers if you hold the gun tight, you'll be all...
Is this possible? Seems like it'd be a great combination to have buis for brush shots and a scope (maybe 4-16 power) for longer ranges. Is there a mount that makes this happen?
I've seen it said by a few guys that they use their magazine as a rest/monopod. It seems like Recoil would create issues with accuracy/torquing the gun etc.
Is this the case?
The bench with sandbags and a rest is one thing but how do you pull it off in the woods?
Here's what I like to do but it may not be a good idea. I like to trap the gun's fore-end between my hand and a tree and lean into it a little. This keeps me pretty still but I always wonder what the...
