There is also Scott Null in Driggs Idaho for all you Savage needs. He is currently at savagegunsmithing.com. I have dealt with him a number of times and he does exemplary work.

Have to ask the same question Ernie ask- intentions and range.
I am a hunter first and fore most. I use the Burris 3-12 handgun scope for all of my hunting needs.
Have taken deer from 250- 600 yards and have had no need to use a greater power.
If I were going to shoot...

There are ball endmills out there for any size you need. A ball endmill the size you indicate will cause heart palpitations and blurred vision when you see the price.
SInce I steel and Piller bed anyway, I have found it way easier to cut flats with standard endmills and actually use...
Northland shooters supply sells the awesome savage benchrest action for $435. last I heard. Have two of them and can not say enough good about them. The benchrest accutrigger is definitely a different tune than the hunting one.

I have many and would rate the Ron Bartlett "Vais Brake" # 1 overall because of noise reduction, followed with the Holland quick discharge as # 2 for recoil reduction with the noise. After that for the money and precision I would go with the Ross brake at $60. installed 208-587-8993.

First it is not legal (federal) to make a pistol from a designated rifle action.
You can purchase a undesignated Savage benchrest action for $400. which comes with everything but a barrel and stock. Various barrel makers out there that sell pre-chambered barrels for the Savage. This would...

Can't believe that 8 months ago I got my first. Now I have 5 from 22-250AI through 375X300WSM.
Easy switch barrels, requiring no gunsmithing. Relatively in-expensve barrels in many calibers. Good triggers if converted to rear grip. Lots of takeoff rifle barrels available from free to...

I shoot the vast majority Burris 3-12. Have had good look with the Cheap NCStar scopes. Weaver 2.5X8 is probably the best bang for the bucks at around $200.

About Vais Arms Inc. - Muzzlebrakes.com
Ron does super work.
The 300 is a fine cartridge while using the bullet weight in conjunction with powder capacity. Have a friend using the 190 MK'S at 3200fps from a 300X8Em Mag for 1000 yards.

260 Remington
Have nothing but good to say about the 260 remington for everything from rockchucks to caribou. Light recoil, many bullet choices for the reloader. Great design that should have been made commercial many decades ago.
The quality of the barrel determines accuracy.

My vote is for the 300WSM for a factory available round. I did not like the velocity from a 308 so re-chambered to .284 and got another 140fps.
Since you have a Savage I would not hesitate to change the bolt head and barrel for a real velocity gain in 300WSM.
