What does the brass look like after you eject it? Any scratches or nicks out of the brass?

My friend and I both have one in 7 mag. Both are shooters. Today I put a five shot group at 100 yards that a dime will cover easily. Chronoed at 2950 with a es of 22. I would like to get the es a little lower but I have a cow elk hunt starting in a couple weeks and need to stop messing it with.

I just bought a 7mm mag remy 700 lr a couple months ago. Awesome gun for awesome price. My only problem I had was headspace was a little out of wack and it was causing some sticky brass. Gun smith cleaned it up for 60 bucks. Not a big deal but I would be lying if I said it didn't bother me...

Because I have another 7 mag that's shooting .4 moa. I have always wanted something in the 6.5 and was just thinking this action might be good to have as donor action sense I'm not using the gun much anymore. I have also want a larger 338 cartridge as well. Maybe save the action for that build...

So i have a r700 7mm rm that i thinking about rebarrel into a 6.5. Now my question is what cartridge to go with. I would like longer barrel life plan on shooting the 140 grain berger. So... what would you guys build?

Are you seeing good ES with retumbo? Somewhere I read h1000 was a little better on the ES but can't remember where. I have loaded some h1000 and gave my ES in the teens but I would like sub 10 if possible. Sorry don't wanna hijack your thread

Thanks for the reply hog. It definitely makes sense. I think I'm gonna start from square one. That way I don't waste anymore components. I'm gonna start with .01 off the lands then load some up from 69 to 71 grains every half grain or so while checking es. Hopefully one has a es below 10 then...

I bought a ced m2 chrono from the reviews it seems like a decent chrono. I plan on loading some up with 70.0 grains of h1000 with a few different primers and see which one comes up with lowest es. WRL seems to be a pretty popular choice and I have a few hundred laying around. Sound like good...
