Are the Eld x bullets that bad

I love my 6.5 X 55 with 140gr Nosler Partitions. Shot a mule deer at 275 yds. Front shot at steep uphill angle. Entered in the sweet spot and exited through the blackstrap. Bullet passed through about 15 inches or so of deer and he was DRT. This gun loves the 142 ABLR but I’ve only been able to...

    Tikka T3 Light Ammo

I would look at the Nosler 90 gr Accubond. I’ve found nosler ammo to work well in Tikka’s and Sako’s. Choice Ammunition is also an excellent option if you can’t find nosler.

    6.5 haters

I like your comment about the .270 Win. I see this often with the 280 AI.....manufacturers are trying to force everyone to a 1:9 twist rate which really doesn't work with 160gr and above bullets. But loading the 280 AI with 160 - 175gr bullets with the right twist rate makes this one shine.

    6.5 haters

Adding to a previous comment, I think the unrealistic hype around the 6.5 CM has caused most of controversy around the 6.5 chamberings. I have a 6.5x55 and a 6.5 PRC and that's probably as far as I'll go with the 6.5 caliber. There are many other excellent 6.5 calibers out there, but these are...

    New Scope and New Rifle

I buy quality factory ammo loaded with bullets I intend to reload with when possible. I recently purchased a Tikka T3 in 6.5 PRC and topped it with a Vortex Razor HD LHT 3-15x42. Ammo: Norma w/ 143gr Bondstrike, Hornady Precision Hunter w/ 143gr ELD-X, Nosler w/ 140gr AB, and I just found Choice...

    Rocky or Danner

I used to wear the Danner Pronghorn while hunting in the mountains of Idaho. I never had them leak, but they would only last 1 to 2 years. The 800g Ins. ones are roughly $290 and I could bet either the Rocky or Danner boots will last maybe 2 yrs in a S. Louisiana wet environment. I bought a pair...

    Most accurate non custom

I found my Sako A7 in a little sporting good store as a used rifle for $670.....it had never been fired.

    Most accurate non custom

My current line up of rifles: Sako A7 in .243 Tikka T3 in 6.5 X 55 Tikka T3 in 6.5 PRC Browning Western Hunter in 280 AI I have others, but I think these sort of fit the bill for what you are looking for. All 4 shoot factory ammo very well. The Sako shoots 90 gr Nosler AB ammo so well it's...

Monometal Bullet Choice for Elk 6.5 PRC

Thx for posting. I have a box of 15 124gr HH to test with in my 6.5 X 55 which is very similar to the 6.5 CM in terms of velocity. I’ve been reading up on Hammer’s website but limited availability of powder has caused me to put of testing these bullet. Sounds like they are a slam dunk for the...

How I prepare my knees for 8 western mountain backpacking trips per year...at age 77

I'll turn 51 this summer and am currently 3 weeks post partial knee replacement on my right knee. Through my late 30's and mid 40's I was an ultra-runner on high altitude mountain trails. I could hike and hunt for just about as long as I wanted until the cartilage on the inside of the right knee...

    Best bear bullet in 6.5mm?

I have a 6.5 x 55 and a 6.5 PRC. Both have a 1:8 twist. I haven't taken a bear with either one yet, but maybe this year will be the year. For either caliber, I'd look a these: 1. 124gr Hammer Hunter 2. 156gr Oryx 3. 156gr Berger EOL 4. 140gr Partition 5. 140gr AB These all have excellent...

    Never Spoil your Bird Dog!

I think that was just an excuse someone made up to excuse their abusive behavior of a good bird dog. If you have sled dogs....sure, there's a reason to keep them outside all year. Aside from that......

Monometal Bullet Choice for Elk 6.5 PRC

The only solid copper I’d use for elk would be the 124 Hammer. While I just picked up a 6.5 PRC, I’ve been hunting with and reloading for a 6.5 X 55 for a few years now. I haven’t tried Berger bullets yet, mostly a supply & demand issue but I’ve considered them. These are the bullets I like for...
