Seating out heavy monolithic bullets in 7mm-08

.....Wait again,....Axis in 7mm -08 may be back to 9.5 to 1, have to measure when I get it back.

Seating out heavy monolithic bullets in 7mm-08

Of interest is the slight difference in lengths of some bullets below the 139 gr. SST, 154 gr.SST and 150 gr. TSX: And the fact the 150 gr. TSX seated to just have boat tail in case body, will still work in short Axis magazine, and that bullet seated out, well, looks really nasty......However...

Seating out heavy monolithic bullets in 7mm-08

My interest is,.. has short action magazine and 2.80" limit hamstringed the heavier long bullets in the 7mm-08 by reduction in powder charges? But then barrel length may have more to do with it, in my Sierra Manual a, 26" 7mm-08 shows 2700 fps with 150 gr. with 44.2 grains of 4350 and the .280...

Seating out heavy monolithic bullets in 7mm-08

150 has slightly better B.C. and I have a boat load of them. Plus, I have an interest in the 168 Berger VLD, a longy too. Would try to cut my throat to use both. Does your statement have to do with the effect of diminishing returns on limited length of 2.80" COAL, which curtails velocity...

Seating out heavy monolithic bullets in 7mm-08

I have purchased a Savage Axis 7mm-08, which with just a magazine and composite trigger guard change, becomes a long action. Because I need to use 150 gr. Barnes TSX bullets and their long length, I've also purchased a PTC 7mm UNI Throater. My question is, has anyone else experimented with...

338 Edge Case sizing the proper way ???

I think there will be a problem with the Savage's magazine and "Edge" length and heavy bullets, especially the Barnes. One of the reasons Rem made the .338 shorter, (.091), then the .300 was the case mouth would reach over the Ogive on the long .338 bullets when limited to the 3.6" OAL. If...

Burris Customer Service is a joke

Well, I've had to send 2 of the three Burris scopes back I own both for crap inside and parallax problems. The last one came back with chips in the finish through to bare aluminum. I called and complained, they said send it back???? I said for what, can't be refinished. Sent letter to...

    Blade type micrometers

The "blade" mics I see are all over $ 200 are you sure you are talking about a blade type micrometer? I already have the standard type with round measuring surfaces. Although, from what I'm reading lately, the experts think measuring the case head to predict pressures is not as reliable as...

    7mm RUM case life

So, what<..I'm still jealous of those velocities your getting.... My 40 years of reloading experience is being sorely tested by this cartridge/rifle. If it didn't shoot like a laser, it would be history. Antelope 2 weeks ago in Wyoming 260 yds. Horn. SST 154 grain @ 3150. The trajetory...

    7mm RUM case life

Men don't listen and women can't read maps :-) In my post it states the case cracked and leaked gas, (separation) that's what you are looking at. And, I assume the drop in pressure from the case head failure caused the incomplete seal of the neck letting gas by it. No other cases have done...

    7mm RUM case life

As I said in first post of this thread,..the headspace has been checked, I have a full set of Manson headspace guages. I have checked the fired brass with RCBS precision mic and cases are stretching .005 (which is in the middle .010 SAMMI allows, 2.4742/2.4842), from FL sized, and factory...

    Blade type micrometers

Anyone purchased a good blade mic for a reasonable price? And do you find it of any value to measure case head expansion?

    7mm RUM case life

Are you getting the velocities you want before getting the overpressure signs? I'm starting to think even the factory loads show overpressure in my gun. I wanted to try Barnes new 150 gr. TSX BT bullets a while ago, but there was no loading info. I tried what was the minimum load of 83...

    Need 7mm RUM load info

RL-25 shoots faster in my Savage 116 then Hornady Manual figures, 84 grains with Fed 215 and Hornady 154 SST shows 3100 on chrono. AA8700 shoots same bullet slower then books loadings. However, without neck size only, my primers look very flattened with any load?? Bullets not touching lands...
