Zeiss Z-plex reticle

I just bought a new Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14X50 with the Z-plex reticle. (Love it)

I'm not a long range expert, but was wondering if it was posible to use the distance from the crosshairs to the bottom post as a range estimator. Almost like a mildot?

And if it was, how would you do it?

Yes it is.
Choose one magnification (your choice which - crosshair/target ratio changes with magnification). I recommend highest magnification.

Have a friend walk out to 100yds with a metering band. Look through your scope and have your friend read off the number when the band exactly subtends between your crosshair posts.

Convert these inches to MILs and use as regular MILDOT scope.
1 MIL = 10centimeters at 100 meters. Website www.convert-me.com is a good place to convert your inches to centimeters and MILS.
