I own a 270 and also a 280ai. 280 ai will send out the same bullet weight about 150 fps faster than the 270. Also own a 7 mm rem mag but 270 is what i still use for most hunting

I would love to have a 280 AI. Or, a 280. I reload it for a friend. He has a Winchester featherweight, and, will not part with it...I keep trying though.
280 will throw the heavier bullets that the 270 has been lacking. I believe it will change now with heavier bullets becoming available for the 270.
Faster twists for the 270 will throw the heavyweights that are beginning available to meet other calibers.

I had a few. Only shot a few deer (short range). I did take it out to 800 yards with the old 135 gr SMK. Would definitely do better with more weight. BTW my experience is that 130 gr core-locks will bracket a large plate at 800 yards....

I NEED another rifle so if I was to order a 26-28"barrel what would be the optimal barrel twist for .277 say 140gr and up?my 10" twist barrel will do good up to 150gr projectiles.lilja barrels offers a 8" twist 3groove would this be enough for 180s? looking to reach 1k yds accurate.

8 would allow the 165 matrix and 170 berger so would 8.5 above 2000'. 9tw at sea level would be hit or miss. I'm looking at a cut 8 in 270ai myself. The 9tw seems like a cure for the hit or miss 150 lrab. Some 10's shoot them some don't. I just bought a 7mag so for me it's on the back burner for now
I have a Rock Creek #4 26" 1/8T that is an absolute hammer with Berger 170 EOL.
Since the 170 Bergers shot so well I did not go back to the 150 LRABs.

Thanks the 170 Berger might be the best choice any thing bigger would be difficult to get velocity in a 270win even with a long pipe.

This is why I want to go AI at least. I've kicked around a few wildcats as well as a long action wsm 27 nosler and the weatherby. I keep coming back to the ai. In reading about Feenix's running a 175 matrix @ 2990+ with more room. I just feel that check's all of my boxes.

I've ran the 170 Berger just over 3100 in my 270 Sherman with rl33 but that was max and I have an extremely long throat. This rifle has a 1:8 lilia barrel on it but from what I've heard on recent quality I'd go with something else. I have a 1:8 brux on my 270ss that's been excellent also. I'm shooting the 165 matrix in that at 3000 fps with rl23.
