https://billingsgazette.com/outdoor...cial&utm_source=email&utm_campaign=user-share I post a lot of info I come across on the wolf forum. I feel this needs to be out there for sheep hunters. Thoughts? mtmuley
Maybe, but this is one of the largest Bighorn herds in the country WITH all those predators present. The pneumonia-causing bacterium Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae will kill most of the sheep in a herd.I personally don't believe that domestic sheep are all the reason for the Bighorn's problem.
We have not been able to properly manage the predators on the CMR. Coyotes, Mountain Lions and Golden Eagles. The Eagles are very hard on the spring Bighorn Lambs.
Im not familiar with the Elkhorns but are these Bighorns transplanted? I do know the Feds come and net the Bighorn sheep in march and transplant them all over the state. I have a problem with the anti agriculture propaganda.Maybe, but this is one of the largest Bighorn herds in the country WITH all those predators present. In the Elkhorn mountains a few years ago a squatter on Forrest service land had some domestic sheep/goats that came in contact with the wild Bighorns there, and ALL those sheep are dead.
In Oregon's Hart Mountain Antelope Refuge, the desert bighorn were being hit worst by..........cougars..........
Cougar population moved in from nearby Warner Mtns because.........the deer were dead........
Imagine that....a predator changed locations and food sources because it had eradicated its own food source on another mountain.......
And the pronghorn of the refuge......numbers greatly reduced because of............coyotes........killing the fawns or kids whichever you prefer..........so much reduction in numbers that the game dept had to.......kill off the coyote........
Amazing......but true......
I don't think it's " propaganda". And why even endanger possibly the best bighorn sheep herd in the lower 48? These sheep are one of the only things MTFWP hasn't screwed up yet. I get the property rights angle. I get the agriculture angle. This guy has a different agenda. mtmuleyIm not familiar with the Elkhorns but are these Bighorns transplanted?
