270SS. I am loving my SA Sherman cartridges. I have 3 now, planning on #4 next year some time.
I tried Berger EOL 170 grain in my 270WSM 26" Brux 10" barrel. WOW. Good 1/2 moa groups with RE26. I called Berger for entail load data. They said it would work alright but the BC would be compromised by 7-9%. THe BC is still over .600. I like it so far but haven't stretched it out yet.Sounds like a great project. 270WSM with a 1/8 twist. My Rock Creek barrel is a absolute hammer. Speaking of hammers it would also be great with Hammer Hunters. Throat it long for the Berger 170s and Hammers. You will need a mag length of 3.125 to take full advantage of all this custom rig has to offer.
Didn't think a .270 winchester Ackley was a standard chambering? However I suppose you could just get a cheaper .280 Ackley bushing die set and get bushings for .270, for a full set that puts you around $200, not terribly far ahead of the custom Sherman Whidden dies, but you could also get just the bushing sizer and bushing for around $85-$90 (with bushing), and use a standard seater I suppose, and save some. Otherwise, the .270 Winchester Ackley dies are about the same as any other set of custom dies, which save you around $100 over the Whidden Sherman dies.

Either one would be a decent option though.
Feenix, are you insinuating I should design my own wildcat and name it after myself!?! I don't really need your help convincing myself to do something expensive and illogical!
Bigngreen, I knew you were THE MAN amongst men on this topic. In your opinion, is the Blaser going to yield any real performance gain over the WSM being both can have Norma brass and will most likely be on a long action in my case? Barrel life isn't a big concern, but I refuse to build something with a life of 500-800 rounds like the 26/28 noslers. What could I expect from the WSM in a hunting/practice situation where no more than 15-20 rds get shot any given day with proper cooling between 3 shot strings ?
Feenix, bad ideas and dirty thoughts are the only things I'm really good at!
270 Sherman max on a Tikka action running a hells canyon billet magazine. Get one his 1:8 twist carbon barrels while you're there. Put it all in a Mesa Precision altitude or ag composites alpine stock, and you'll have a very accurate and lightweight rifle for 2500$ max. I've got 2 soon to be 3 rifles done by Mike and they're all excellent!
.Why not just take a .280 Ack
