I am rifle shopping for a project, and need a little direction. On a Rem 700 or a savage, if the rifle is chambered in 300 win mag, will the longer stw case fit, or will I have to go to a different mag box. If I need the different mag box, suggestions would be appreciated on where to aquire one. Suggestions most appreciated.

I would opt for the Rem and have it fitted with a Wyatt's max box regardless as it will allow you to longer bullets and seat them out further.

The STW case will fit in the max box used for the 300 Win mag but the case is longer and thats gonna limit you to seating your bullet deep in the case.

The Savage is a grat action to build on bt you are not gonna have nearly the aftermarket goodies thats avalable for the Remington

In a savage you can do the STW in 300 Win mag but will need to do a magazine job on it to feed from there. Otherwise it will need a follower and be shot as a single shot. Hey we only need one shot anyway right (LOL). Just order a new barrell and screw it on yourself. Look here for some other links on this route. Savage Shooters

Fred here is considered one of the leading gunsmith for Savage and has done numerous mag conversions and can tune the bolt for a smooth feeding action as well. If you plan on using him get on the list he has become quite popular. I was lucky and found an old Savage Custom arms that was already chambered in 7 MM STW. If you can find one of these or a 300 RUM in Savage you can then just switch the barrel yourself.
