I bought a .280 Rem about a year ago and havent had time to jump on reloading for it yet. I would like to run the 180 bergers in it, but from the factory ammo Ive shot it looks like 140's are gonna be the ticket. So im curious, what are most of you guys running?

Its a factory remington 700 DM stainless with a 24" 1-9.5

Im contemplating letting it sit in the safe and buying a m70 in 7WSM so I can run the 195 Bergers at a decent velocity, but figured I should give the .280 a go first.

i doubt an off the shelf 7wsm will have a fast enough twist for the 195's. just food for thought. i am running 160 accubonds out of my 280 rem. they shoot about an inch at 200. loaded with h4831sc

ZStienle, Thats a good point about the factoy tubes not handleing the 195's. I suspect that the 1-9.5 would be close though. Litz says that a 1-8.5 will for sure... so im curious.

The 160 Accubonds next in line after the 180's. Whats your average velocity and barrel length?

I have the same gun. It's been my every day deer rifle for the last 14 years although I've never shot it much long range. I worked up 5 loads with cheap 140g rem core lokts back then and 2 were sub moa...smallest was .81 and largest was around 1.5...good enough for 98% of my PA deer hunting. 100g sierra varminters shoot well out of it too and come out of the muzzle fast enough to vaporize smaller critters :Dgun)

my go to load in mine is a 145 speer hotcore flat base spitzer and reloader 19. Shoots under an inch and knocks the cork out of deer out to 350. Other bullets ive used are 140 sierras and 140 nos bts. Mine likes the speers a bit better so thats what it gets fed.

dang, I deffinately wont be running the 180's. I kinda like to stay at 2800 or better for velocity. maybe I go AI? once i shoot out the tube Im probably going to a .284 win, but for now I think It'll be 160 accubonds.

160 accubonds have been great for me. The BC is good and is a great hunting bullet. when i first got my 280 i loaded up 3 different loads all at 57gr. and 3 different lengths and they all shot just over an inch to just under an inch at 200yards.

162 gr AMAX, 56 gr H4831SC @2700fps......75moa but I did have to bed the rifle full length. Otherwise it was 1.00 moa with action bedded. Sporter Barrel.

I shoot 168grain VLD with 56grains H4831SC lit by Winchester Large Rifle Primer. Velocity = 2780. All this from a 24" 1:9 twist barrel.
