Try reversing your procedure.......zero at 500 then shoot at 100. Your amount of 5 " deviation could simply be the resultof parallax error.

Reverse your procedure..... Zero@ 500, then shoot at 100, Reduce the alternatives one at a time but begin with parallax error. The margin of error is directly proportionate to the difference between the factory-set range for which the scope minimizes parallax and the range of your shot. If factory set at 100 and zeroed at 25, the error is 4 times that at 100.
