Preparing a short chambered barrel.

Depending in the action as shortgrass & others have said. Prefit Rems sometimes have a generous nose clearance. If that is the case then an alternate method would be to "surface grind" the lug the .005 (not much).
Flute timing, curvature clocking, open sights etc. Will require the 1 thread setback as others mentioned.
 
Take a piece of Plastigage or soft solder, stick it onto the back of the go-gauge (dab of grease), close the bolt.
Remove and then mike it. That'll tell you exactly what your headspace clearance is.
