The new long range section opened this past weekend at Strategic Edge. In addition to the 100-500 yard range we already had, we now have a 600, 750, 1000 and 1250 yard range.

This is a first class shooting club. We have covered firing lines with bench rests and room for prone shooters. We have golf carts to ride to the target areas as well as permanent camera systems to see the hits on the targets at 600, 1000 and 1250 yards.

Saturday morning I checked my zero at 100 yards then walked out to each range and checked my dope for an antelope hunt next week. It was really nice to be able to check my drop tables at 8 different ranges at the same time and place. I was a little surprised at the difference between 1000 yards and 1250 yards. With my 300 Win. Mag. shooting the 190 grain Berger VLDs, it took 22.5 MOA to center the 1000 yd. target but at 1250, only 250 yards farther, it took 34 MOA. That's 143 inches of drop in 250 yards. Forgetting about the parabolic arch, that's 14.3" of drop for every 25 yards. This really shows the importance of knowing exactly how far your target is, and what your drops are.
