Need some suggestions for a 220 swift load

H4895 burn rate is about right so Varget and 4350 are close. My favorite cool weather load lately was 39 Re15 and a 55 vmax and even though it's supposed to be temp stable it pushed pressures when it gets to 100 degrees. I have a few pounds or staball but have never used it, For some reason I figure ball powders either work or they don't and all will push pressures with very little change in weight. Way back I used IMR 4064, 38 grains? behind a Hornady 53 grain match for coyotes. Killed fast, rarely left an exit and shot less than .25 at 100.

How about boattail V-max vs flat base?
Flat base all the way!!!

I know it's not in your list of components, not trying to derail or ignore what you said…but in my limited experience with a very finicky swift, the answer to most questions was a 55 grain flat base of some kind on top of 38 grains of imr 4064

B4B, thanks for your answer also ,that's a Very fine rifle you have Congrats!. A good friend had the same style and caliber he had just bought it and it was like new, while we were shooting he lined up two crows at about 440 yards , and popped them both , think he was using the 52or53 grain Sierra match bullets ,Savage then Ruger and finally Remington keep the Swift alive. I also had a Ruger 77/V ,26 bbl ,1/14 tw , that shot fantastic, I for one Still think it's the King of Swing !!!😆👏👏👏🥳,cheers everyone .

IMR 4064 is always the fall back powder, if your rifle won't shoot good using it then it's the rifle. I've been using H414/ww760 in mine the last few years.
From what you have listed, Varget will work but I don't get the velocity that I want in my Swift. I plan on trying the Stabal6.5 soon and think it will work well.
I think the others that you have listed are too slow for optimum results. Use standard primers, no need for magnums.
Bullet choice will depend on what's available and your intended purpose. I have always used the 55 grain in the few Swifts and 22-250s that I have owned. YMMV

Hornady 55,60,spritzers is worth a try ,sometimes simple is better ,RL/15 is also a great powder , can't find load data on 6.5 Stabl, in my older manuals imr4350 is used way more then H4350 but that don't mean H4350 isn't Stellar powder ,Remember lite bullets equals fast powders ,heavier bullets slower. Your Br2 primers are fine also there just a Match primer, but very good. Sierra makes great bullets also worthy of your time . Op if you need data just pm ,cheers !.

H4350 works pretty well with Nosler 55 Tipped Varmageddons in my rifle. My rifle is a Win M70 Varmint 1-14 twist. I'm using Win brass and Fed GM210M (Match) primers, OAL 2.812". Hodgdon's data is pretty conservative in my experience with my rifle, so I'll share what I found (10) shot groups.
42.0 gr = 3852 fps avg, ES 49, SD 23, 42.2 gr = 3853 avg, ES 73, SD 31, 42.4 gr = 3869 fps avg, ES 90, SD 36, 42.6 gr = 3875 fps avg, ES 31, SD 12, (best group .296")

RL16 and same components above:
40.7 gr = 3746 avg, ES 16, SD 11, 41.1 gr = 3821 fps avg, ES 8.6, SD 6, 41.5 gr = 3896 fps avg, ES 1, SD 0.7, 41.9 gr = 3906 fps avg, ES 15, SD 11
41.5 - 41.7 grains gave me the best accuracy. The 41.7 load averaged at 3908 fps, nothing much to gain after this weight of powder in my rifle.

All of my testing with H4350 and RL16 with bullets less than 55 grains indicated to me it was slightly too slow for optimum results.

Reloader 15.5 has shown lots of promise with 50 grain bullets in my rifle. Using the Sierra 50 grain BlitzKing at 2.735" OAL.
38.4 gr = 3857 fps avg, ES 52, SD 36, 38.8 gr = 3906 fps, ES 7, SD 4.5, 39.2 = no velocity data due to limits of LabRadar Chrono but I had the best group at .360" @ 100 yds.
Later in September a 40 grain load same bullet and length 40 gr = 3997 fps avg, ES 23, SD 11 for a .492" group, and 40.4 gr = 4044 fps avg, ES 20, SD 9 for a .452" group.

I used 760/414 also but they also did the ball powder pressure spikes for me. Some of my problem though might be different lots of brass. It was never easy to find so it has been acquired over the last 45 years or so.

I am sure glad to see so many people with Swift's! Also using 4064 and 50 to 55 grain bullets. It seems like most of the time now everyone is wanting to use 70 up heavies. I grew up loading for the Swift, using IMR 4064 with 52 grain sierra match king's and CCI BR2 primers in my Dad's pre 64 Model 70 Winchester. I now understand the twist at 1:14 limits it to lighter bullets. I still have 60's vintage Winchester factory 48 grain ammo that actually runs 4100 fps! A while back I found 8 or 10 boxes of 1935 vintage first year production Winchester 220 Swift ammo that looks like brand new! I have not had the urge yet to try one, and given the collector's value probably won't. Anyway, love the Swift, always have, always will!
