Good plan, keep your gear light. I've been thinking about pushing my blacktail range out to 600 yds this season. Currently, I'm comfortable with about half that range. I hunt really brushy terrain in So. Cal. Blacktail here are small and usually only partially visible in the brush. Gotta see a forked horn to take it - no doe season here.
I'll probably use my sporterized Mauser in 270 Win because it shoots sub MOA 5-shot groups. I have to upgrade my bino, spotter and riflescope, though. Still undecided about those details. I may go 15X on the bino. I'm thinking either BDC reticle or mildot. I've been tinkering with both options on different rifles. I need to go light on everything for the same reason as you.
