Ok this is bugging the crap out of me. What way should the Burris XTR rings face. I think the cut out should face back but I have read where others feel it should face forward. Which way should it face and why?

The nuts go the left. The square part of the cross bolt goes to the "front" to evenly distribute the force of recoil over a larger area rather than against a round part of the cross bolt.

If the nut is facing to the left the square part will be facing forward.

From what I have gathered from others the square portion should be facing to the front to be mounted correctly.

Oops, you are right. The flat does go forward as the recoil would push from the front. I knew the nuts went to the left for sure to make them correct. Sorry about that.
