Heavy for caliber vs. high velocity monos

I am glad to see that I am not they only one who enjoys this type of shooting. When ever I have contributed to a post or thread about this style of loading and shooting it seems to fall flat. Oh well I shoot and load over 40 different calibers all over 4000fps except for one my 308 which is maxed out @3800fps with a full case of 4198. Not for lack of trying.LOL

This one will turn in to a Dumpster Fire soon enough when all the paper pushing high BC guys start rattling off what the ballistic app says

My question would be how fast is fast enough to matter from a terminal ballistics standpoint?

For example I'm running the 123 AH at 3400 out of a 24" 6.5 PRC with the goal of whitetail from 20 out to 700 yards. How much of a difference would it be compared to running the 109s at 3600 or the 97s at 3800? Or in the case of my Dad's 18" 6.5 PRC instead of running the 123 AH at 3200 using the 109 to maintain the 3400 fps?

Here is a very good example even though there are a lot of things not accounted for and I don't put much value in paper, it's purely a reference point to me

I've used mono's "only" since the early '90's. I prefer to keep my mono weigh at what would be considered a typical or normal weight for a cup and core. Example: my wife's .338 WM - 225 TTSX, and I'm running 250 TTSX's in my .375.....only until I use up the supply I bought before Barnes brought out the 270 LRX! memtb

I'm shooting the 169 HH at 3270 in my .28 nosler. I like the speed, but I can notice the lack of energy out around 700 yards for sure. The 195 Berger's at 3030fps swing a plate better at 1000 than the HH's do at 700. But I really like that extra speed for say, around 500 yards. If only they had a better BC 😞😞.

Put them in your ballistics app and compare drop, velocity at impact, energy at impact. At the ranges that you would realistically shoot an animal.
